I also struggle with a bunch of League of Legends items and I don't know why. I've been playing for over a year and I'm still not sure how to pronounce the "aegis" in Aegis of the Legion.

Apparently it's [ijIs] (ee -jis) which means I've always pronounced it wrong... it also brings up some unpleasant implications about the name Aeris.

Probably the biggest ones are ae- words, such as Aegis and Aether which are pronounced ee-jis and ee-ther, which I used to pronounce A-gis and A-ther.
One word that I used to mispronounce a long time ago is xenomorph.
Not game or movie related, I used to call functions that are integrable integratable.

I can't pronounce the word Quetzalcoatl, no matter how hard I try.

It is absolutely infuriating!

That's one of the words that seriously trip me up. When I first saw it I was like, ......All my wat.

I always try to say Kweht-sul-coat-l but end up actually saying Kweht-sul-coal-tul.

It's actually pronounced more like "ketsal-co-ah-tul". The qu is a k sound, not a kw sound.

i'm assuming that is sarcasm, but maybe not? In the US, where the developers are from, it is spelled that way, it's our differences in english compared to the UK's english.

If I try spelling the word "colour" or "honour", I get massive red squiggles all over the page.

I get the distinct feeling that you're English. Honour and Honor are both correct spellings. It's just that we, in the States, do not use the extra U. Just so, the Escapist's spell-check is telling me that honour is incorrect. It's actually a pretty easy way to tell an American from an Englishman.

Just call me a disgruntled Englishman; I was indeed using sarcasm as a poor substitute for genuine humour. Ooo humour, did I spell that right? I kid, I kid!

Funnily enough I will always honour the native spelling when typing about something. I always spell Dishonored the American way, I will refer to American shows in "seasons" rather than the British "series" and I'm actually rather fond of the word "elevator" rather than our somewhat boring "lift."

So there, you win America.

Something more recent, I, until recently, thought the big-ass flying ship in The Avengers was called the "Hellcarrier" as opposed to "Helicarrier". Previous to my revelation I thought that it was the most bad-ass vehicle ever, now I'm just like "meh".

Then when I played Other M I found out it was supposed to be pronounced Z-eh-b-eh-s and Tout-ian respecivly, but fuck you Other M, I'm going to keep pronouncing it Zee-bees.

A lot of the classic terminology in Final Fantasy I kept mispronouncing until they started applying voice acting and I heard how it's supposed to be pronounced. Such as:

-Eidolon: I was pronouncing it "Ay-doh-lone" / it's actually "Eye-doh-lun"
-Ifrit: "If-ret" / "Eef-rit"
-Bahamut: "Bah-hah-met" / "Bah-hah-moot"
-Mako: "Make-oh" / "Mah-ko"
-Zidane: "Zid-ayne" / "Zid-ahn"
-Lucrecia: "Loo-cree-tia" / "Loo-cret-zia"

Yeah, I still don't get that last one. I get that it's the Japanese pronunciation, but it really doesn't spell the same.

30 years after I read The Hobbit I watched the film and discovered that the dragon's name is pronounced Smogue or Smoeg, and not Smog.

Likewise Sauron is Sowron, which I'd always read as Soron.

I wouldn't trust the voice actors to know how to pronounce things either. I've heard plenty of times when two actors in the same game/show/movie/ whatever pronounce the same thing differently (one has to wonder how this sort of thing doesn't get caught during production).
Often, there is no "right" way to pronounce things anyway, just regional preferences.

hah just making sure! plenty of people can get very "territorial" over such things (yes, even Americans, ESPECIALLY americans..) So was just making sure it was sarcasm before you might blow a fuse on me.

Although I do kinda see where the irritation would come from, in the case of Dishonored. It has a very British flair to it and it's painfully obvious that a lot of the character are indefinitely English. So it would make more sense if it was Dishonoured, instead of Dishonored.
