I don't think anyone is actually suggesting that, I know I'm not, however one has to understand the difference between criticizing and acting like a whiny spoiled little brat. And for purposes of clarification, 95% of the Internet falls into the latter category, certainly 95% of gamers on the Internet anyway.
When the Mass Effect 3 debacle was in full swing, there were large, sweeping arguments about the value of the game itself. Whether it was worthwhile or not.
And within that maelstrom of arguments, pissing and moaning, there were a few "factions" I identified:
-Those who demanded that the DLC be included pre-purchase
-Those who demanded that the DLC be included post-purchase
And there are further factions than that:
--People who were unhappy with their purchase, and who criticized the game for its content:cost.
--People who were unhappy with their purchase, and demanded DLC as a sort of tribute. (obvious entitlement, and a source of great controversy)
Lets simplify things and eliminate the need for foresight. Lets work in hindsight, after the game has already launched and actual word-of-mouth criticism has begun.
At which point does someone become entitled for thinking "I'd buy the game if it included that content."
I do that all the time with GOTY versions of older games. Borderlands with all the DLC for 50 bucks is quite a step up from Borderlands without it. Was I a whiny entitled brat for waiting on a price drop?
If so, why? The argument itself seems to be a form of exclusion or hand-waving of what is essentially a purely-subjective process: "This is what I like, and this is how much I am willing to pay for it."
Or, in retail: "I am willing/unwilling to buy that at that price if it includes/excludes ."
I occupy a different part of the Demand curve; I am willing to pay less and wait longer than someone who wants to rip open the game on launch so he can talk about it with his friends.
But in the end, what objectifies, what justifies using that word as a catch-all condescending insult? (besides someone acting like a whiny jackass, perhaps)
