We must live, or we die.
Paradise on my right, hell on my left and the Angel of Death behind.-We tread on a fine line
Do not be in the company of those with whom you do not wish to die.
Always seek betterment of both mind and body but don't get trapped in the pursuit of perfection.
Choose your own golden path but never press your beliefs onto another.
Fate shapes us just as we shape it.
With age does not always come wisdom.
Time given to us is limited, so use it wisely.

"There may not be an "I" in team, but guess what? There's no "U" in team either! So if "I"'m not on the team, and "U"r not on the team, then nobody's on the goddamn team!

This team sucks"

... *sniff* I always tear up when I hear something this meaningful...

"Practice doesn't make perfect, it only makes you better."

A common quote that a lot people have said to me, only, altered............a bit.
Ahh, my badminton coach taught me that one. I think he used to say.

It's not practice makes perfect, it's perfect preactice makes."

So practice makes you good but perfect practice makes you great. Somthiing like that, it sounded better when he said it :/
My wrestling coaches used to say "Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent." I kind of like that one.

My own words:
"It's not what's inside that matters, it's whether the outside is poignant enough for anything else to be considered."

To go a more classic route:

[blockquote]Live not as though there were a thousand years ahead of you. Fate is at your elbow; make yourself good while life and power are still yours.

--Marcus Aurelius, roughly 180 C.E.[/blockquote]

"Show no mercy. Do not hesitate, and soon your transformation to the Dark Side will be complete."

Peace is a Lie, there is only Passion.

Through Strength, I gain Power.
Through Power, I gain Victory.
With Victory, my Chains are Broken.
Brute Force shall Free me.
Ah. You're a Sith, I see. Let me know how that works out for you.

The Paradoxical Commandments said:
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Be good anyway.
Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs, but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
People need help, but may attack you if you do help them. Help them anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.
-Dr. Kent M. Keith

Whoops my bad Kent looks like I failed a few of those there.
That... is awesome. I think I may have read something like that before, but for some reason this version really got me. It's a great, and very difficult, way to live.

Anyway, my words to live by are a quote by Ernest Hemingway that I believe I have mentioned a few times before on this site.
"Every man dies the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man's life from another."

It summarizes my very simple philosophy: in the end, all that matters is what you did. What you changed, who will miss you, the kind of impact you had are all determined by the stuff you did. So go out and start doing stuff.

A couple more Marcus Aurelius quotes, while I'm here:

[blockquote]It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. [/blockquote]

[blockquote]The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. [/blockquote]

Oh, and some Anatole France to finish off:

[blockquote]If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.[/blockquote]

I don't really have any pithy one liners that I live by, but if there were any words that I do place significance by they would have to be those of Philip K. Dick in his exegesis (tractates cryptica scriptura) that is printed at the end of his book valis. It is pretty long, so I won't post all of it here, just the first few and a link to where you can see the rest.

# One Mind there is; but under it two principles contend.

# The Mind lets in the light, then the dark, in interaction; so time is generated. At the end Mind awards victory to the light; time ceases and the Mind is complete.

# He causes things to look different so it would appear time has passed.

# Matter is plastic in the face of mind.

# One by one he draws us out of the world.

# The Empire never ended.

# The Head Apollo is about to return. St Sophia is going to be born again; she was not acceptable before. The Buddha is in the park. Siddhartha sleeps (but is going to awaken). The time you have waited for has come.

# The upper realm has plenary [Var. plenipotentiary] powers.

# He lived a long time ago, but he is still alive.

# Apollonius of Tyana, writing as Hermes Trismegistos, said "That which is above is that which is below." By this he meant to tell us that our universe is a hologram, but he lacked the term.

there are 53 in total, I believe.
