Well, normally I would object to the mass amount of yellow cards, but most, if not all of them, have been earned. For once we have decent reffing. I mean, there was the blatant red card from De Jong, but every ref has to get something obvious wrong. That's just how soccer works.

Still, Robbin looks to be the man of the match for me so far. He got incredibly unlucky on his one breakaway. The goalie saved it with the SIDE OF HIS FUCKING BOOT after all.

The Spanish had a better first half, the at the start of the second the Dutch did better. After that, the judo tournament reopened (my father hates it when I yell 'Ippon!' every time a player goes down).

It WAS horrific! Didn't you see that foul?! De Jong performed a goddamn karate kick to a Spaniard's sternum! Add a fuckton of momentum and those nasty soccer shoe crampons to the mix and yes, that definitely qualifies as horrific!
Um, no it really wasn't - it definatly wasn't a red card; maybe if it was another referee, like some of the jokers we've seen in this competition, but a tackle like that isn't a straight red - a yellow was the right decision.

I don't know what referee some people have been watching, the fouls have been given correctly, and the yellows were right. You don't give red cards in a world cup final unless there's an off-the-ball inncident or a leg-breaking tackle...maybe you think Klose's sending off against Serbia was a correct decision...

And the Netherlands blow yet another World Cup final.

They still have the title of being the best team to never win a World Cup though (A.K.A "The Best Losers").

Mix in shots with Zidane's headbutt and you've got a masterpiece.

I still maintain Klose's sending off was undeserved.

And for the record, I refuse to agree with your viewpoint on that foul from De Jong. If you think all that deserved was a yellow then you probably wouldn't give a red unless one player pulled a Glock out of their jersey and popped a cap in an opponent's ass.

Anyway... congratulations, Spain! You weren't at your best today, but I still feel you earned this victory.

You and anyone who knows anything about football...

Well I'm of the opinion that football should keep its place as a contact sport, yes...a simple kick, aimed at the ball, that Alonso jumped into and hardly injured himself, isn't red card worthy to me...

Regardless whether Alonso jumped or not, that foot was aimed nowhere near the ball. This was not a tackle, this was an attempt at injuring another human being.

The video clearly distorts what occurred. De Jong put his foot up to go for the ball - he's not even looking at Alonso until he kicks him.

Pause it before the video starts (as in the picture at 0:00) and look where the ball is - both players appear to be planning to kick the ball - it's what De Jong attempts to do; whilst Alonso attempts to jump at the ball - resulting in the clash. It's not a red card - no intent, no injury, and within the context of the game the right decision was made anyway.

Holland was playing like a bunch of rugby players.

I wanted them to win, but Spain did deserve it.

Good game Spain.

They played much better football.
They played a lot of good passing, but defended terribly and couldn't deliver in the final third - nor could Holland, but claiming one side played significantly "better football" than the other in that match game is the real joke...

Both teams played poorly, and both teams cheated. Spain were unbelievable when it came to dissent; it was laughably childish. Whilst Holland's tackles were even worse than Spain's...
