To compare a team whose only true strength is counter-attacking to a team who plays with poise, momentum and significantly more individual skill (not to mention not playing like a back of thugs) and say one is not better than the other is ludicrous. Holland's defence was strong, but overall Spain played better football. Except Torres. Why was he even on the field?

Did you seriously just claim Spain played, today, with "poise" and didn't play like thugs? True, Spain were a lot better at hiding their cheating within the game - the casual spectator might not have noticed, but if you saw the level of dissent, the shirt tugging and the blatant dives (Iniesta stepped on someone's foot and dived - it was comical) you'd see they were both as bad as each other...

Spain played terribly, got a lucky break with the goal (it was due to a defensive error that they had so much time, and the fact Holland were wrongly not given a corner). I;d like to hear this individual skill you discuss, you mean Robben beating 4 players, as Fabregas did, or Sniders defence splitting pass as Iniesta did? Both teams were pretty well matched on that front; neither team took their chances, of which there were an equal amount of blatant chances.

Of course, you're biased towards Spain - that much is clear, so you'd argue to the contrary, but I highly disagree with your comments.

Thank God Spain won. A victory for football not just in the final, but in the tournament. Was upset for my fellow South Yorkshireman Howard Webb, he struggled against appalling conduct from the Dutch all night. Well deserved Spain, by far the best side in the tournament, whereas in my book the Dutch were lucky to even be in the final after they kicked Brazil off the park. Now that would be a real final...

Right result.

Not a fantastic game to watch in my opinion - some of the passing was sweet and both goalies had a great game but neither side looked immensely threatening and seemed to run out of ideas.

Pleased it didn't go to penalties - it always feels to me like something has gone wrong with the game if it comes to a penalty shoot out.

I thought they were the exact same teams nearly other then the name and colours.

I predicted by the end of the 90 minutes and bonus 3 minute time it would be 0-0, then when they added in the 50 minutes and the Dutch got a red card I put my vote for the Spanish and done; I was right.

They won the Euro Cup 2 years ago and didn't lose a single match since then till the World Cup opening.

More intriguing is Portugal's third place in the ranking, even though they did fuck all since 2006 to even deserve a Top 10 spot.

If you want me to say something about the world cup then.....I'm rooting for whichever team has the fewest fans using those damn vuvuzelas. I actually watched some of the earlier games, but they were so annoying that I had to stop.

As if I'm the biased one here. Funny, every commentator on the local TV station here agrees with me. I'm sure they don't know what they're talking about though. And don't get the contact and foul play that happens in every professional match confused with the bullshit the Dutch were pulling. At least they cleaned up their act after the first half. It was stupidly malicious.

We can't have been watching the same game, but then again I couldn't give a shit what commentators say - it's my opinion; that's there, and your opinion - why is it so difficult for people on the internet to understand such a basic idea? You can't say, with certainty, that one team meant to hurt one team more than the other, so why are we even arguing over such a point?

Both teams failed to capitalise on equal amounts of chances. Robben is one of the fastest players in the cup, this is true; but on a team-wide level, individually the Spanish had more skill.

That they didn't show today...

And as for dissent, when it comes to the Dutch, there is no comparison. Especially Robben.

Yeah, because one player getting angry after being pulled when close to goal is much worse compared to the three Spanish players that surrounded the referee after every single incident - following him around the pitch complaining...the Dutch did it too, but let's not try and cast Spain as holding any moral high ground...

Um. Okay cool, so, you're arguing with my opinion, and then telling me that it's so bad that I'm arguing with yours. Why is it so difficult? You tell me.

Well primarily because I pointed out the fact Spain cheated, it was a fact, they did, you can't deny it - you then started trying to claim Holland were more malicious than Spain - which is an opinion - you then claimed that that was correct; and my interpretation of the tackles was not - that's the difference.

And I can say that with certainty, because I watched the game and saw the fouls. The Dutch had more frequent and worse fouls, hence I can conclude that they were more malicious.

Please tell me you're joking; that in itself displays the fact it's opinion...

This is true. However, I think htey'd still played with more skill than the Dutch, even if it didn't hold a candle to their earlier efforts.

See above; you agreed with my point, because again, it's pretty much a fact Spain didn't play well today, but you then throw an opinion in there.

Regardless of what Spain did, Robben did it worse. Comaplining is one thing, out-and-out yelling at and abusing is something else.

Difference of opinion, personally I see constant complaints to be a far greater degree of cheating over the whole game...
