EDIT: I assure you, not a rickroll, a clip of 'Tesco' (a British supermarket chain) and their wars. Barely relevant, but I just love Time Trumpet so fucking much.

Here's another: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0PSyiRXIEyc
I love Time Trumpet!

You get a cookie for reminding me of it.

Fair enough. I'll restate: I believe that WoW does not have complex enough strategy, variety, or story to relate to intelligent and/or skilled gamers. Now, my comments have nothing to do with how well it was designed. WoW is not made for art, or gaming. WoW was designed for, as you said, accessibility and cold hard cash. At that, they have done a marvelous job.
I fundamentally disagree with you on every level. Not complex enough strategy or variety? Look at the fights in Sunwell, or the first version of Naxxramas. Look at C'Thun, look at the new Oculus / Eye of Eternity that has your character actually on a dragon using their abilities. Look at Lake Wintergrasp, which is a siege/defense PvP objective. In Wrath of the Lich King, the story from WC3 is tied to the plot more closely than ever before, and with phasing zones it can actually progress instead of remaining static (for your character at least). How about the Wrathgate quest line?

A game can be challenging and complex - as the highest level of raiding in WoW certainly is - without being needlessly punishing, as you'd have in games like UO. WoW is designed to be accessible, yes, but IMO it's one of the most brilliantly and lovingly crafted games in recent memory. Visit Blizzard sometime and the sheer effort they put into their creations is immediately obvious.
And at the end of the day, it's all just a ploy to devour your soul.

Alright, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply/say that the game design was weak. I know there are many enjoyable things about it. For me though, it simply seems like one giant grind game, where every new land is the same quest over and over again with new creatures offering it. There is no player housing, the PvP feels restrictive, the expansion boasts the ability to get to the max level in half the time (which is not a good thing), there is almost no in game RP, and the combat system is pretty dull. Once you know the right combos of skills and spells, you use that over and over again. When I played for 4 months about a year ago, I was max level pretty fast, could PVP most anyone, and was at my patience level for anymore "collection quests." I understand you and about 3,000,000,000 love this game, but I'm sorry, it's not for me. And even with such a huge following...I'm not alone in those opinions.

Hey, no need to apologize. The game's not for everyone, the genre's not for everyone, and nothing's perfect. I find, though, that you get out of WoW what you put into it. I've found impromptu RP events just walking through Dalaran for instance. I agree that no player housing is annoying and that if you like PvP you're better off with WAR, but I think that suggesting that making an accessible game is making a dumbed-down game simply isn't true.

Some people enjoy a game with more grit in it. Games that are rough around the edges do have their own appeal. That's why you like Ultima Online. I used to play that game constantly too.

WoW is far superior.
