It's not perfect in any way, it's just designed to be addictive.

I enjoyed playing it when I did. Certainly not perfect, I did in fact get bored after a while.

It's entirely their choice, I honestly could care less if someone wants to waste their life on a MMORPG or any other video game

It's not perfect. It's just very wellwriten and the interface is great, the monsters are awesome and the scenery is gorgeous.

On the other hand it costs a LOT and sucks up a lot of time.

So, I guess it's both. I mean, drugs make you feel good, cost a lot and are addictive. WoW is too...

I played the trial only, and found myself whising I played some more... It is really addictive BECAUSE it's good.

Title should be "World of Warcraft, Addiction and the perfect game."

To skip all those hater and shouters that wouldnt see a good game if it hit them right in their crotch...

Is WoW a good and popular game? Yes it is. You may not like it personally, and yeah, 11 million people doesnt prove something is good, especially when it comes to movies or music, but its hard to find any real flaws behind WoWs design.

I get it. You dont like MMOs, you dont like grind, you odnt like end game, you dont like whatever else the genre offers - dont play it, but dont judge it either based only on your likes and dislikes. I dont play WoW anymore either, I found it getting to repetitive and too easy while chopping off too much of the fun things in favor of access and casual gaming style. But it doesnt change the basic fact.

WoW is a good, well made, polished and pretty much perfected example of what some like to call EQ style MMO. It has plenty of content, variety of things you can do, solid world, relatively pleasant to the eye visuals and not bad learning curve.

Its easy enough to let anyone play it, while the highend game does requires at least common sense, knowledge of your class and ability to work with team instead just mashing buttons (emphasis on high because apparently, even with all the easy mode everyone complains about only ~5% of playerbase does full clears).

It did offer a little bit for everyone, from solo content, daily grinding, mindless monster hunting, through casual and more competitive pvp (balance issues aside), group content to take on with friends to end game for the more agitated guilds.
As far as current MMOs goes, it achieved everything it wanted to achieve, but there is no such things as perfect game, everyone likes something different. It just did it well enough in right time, giving a massive prod to the whole MMO market.

POPULARITY PROVES NOTHING!!
This sums it pretty much up. Just because many people like something, doesn't mean it's good. See -> mainstream music

World of Warcraft is not my game, the mechanics that are meant to keep you playing are mostly to cheap in my opinion.

It's a good game, and if people want to play it all day then I'm in no position to offer any alternative. Not everybody wants to spend their entire day outside, or even just an hour, and I don't have anything against those that choose not to, it's their life, and anybody who tries to force them how to live it with bullshit reasoning like "social interaction is needed, and to be successful you must earn x amount of money per year working as a job that on a generic level people would consider "fulfilling"" are arrogant pricks.

I think people have more leverage than they think, and I don't believe that the vast majority of WoW players who spend the majority of their day logged in are addicts. Maybe they just enjoy it, real life isn't for everyone.

I totally agree with Keava, WoW is easily one of the best MMO games, and its hard to find another that competes with it.
I still play WoW, i've dropped it then gone back to it countless times because unless an addict then you eventually tire of the grind and go onto greener pastures. Though most ex-wow players will agree they'll very likely go back to WoW. A game has to be good to keep bringing people back like that, no?

Also just to clarify, not that many people do get addicted to WoW its just there seems to be this massive stigma over WoW with addictions.

Pretty hard to define "a good thing", but 600,000 people take cocaine regularly according to the US Government.
People let it take over there lifes
That's pretty much a definition of a "bad thing"
but surely if its popular its a good game?
I can think of many "popular" things that aren't good.

World of Warcraft itself isn't really good or bad, but opinions on it vary wildly. Especially here.

I would say that even the most ardent fans wouldn't call it perfect though.

Hi, my name is Simen. (no jizz jokes please)
And I play world of warcraft.

I don't think of myself an addict, I play the game mainly to have something to do when I am bored whilst looking for my friend who infact is an addict.
I think that the game is ok, it's not the best game of time, not even close. But it always promises more fun and great rewards if you keep playing, therefor I would say it's more addictive than fun. But anyone with enough braincells to analyze the game will understand this and i believe that if you know what youre going for you will be safe.

It was good, really good. I quit a few times getting to 60 as it got boring, but a lot of the time I found it really fun. The problem started when it got to the end game and the constant raiding, then you start to realise it's no longer fun or a game anymore. I would say it is addictive, but I've had no problems with quitting.

It's the perfect example of what it sets out to achieve, but 'perfect' is too subjective to apply to a game in general.

It's a super-massive time suck.

Twilight is more popular than just about anything else right now, is it the best movie/novel series ever?
of course it is
