Why ask for peoples' opinion then berate them for it? You're not gonna last long if you keep it up.

A lot of people say that WoW is terrible because blizzard came out saying that they had some new great innovation. But its really nothing new yet WoW players will go on about its the most awesome original thing out there and that every other MMO copied it. But if you look at it the games not that much different from the original Everquest. Other people hate it because it offers no real story and believe it destroyed what story the Warcraft series had.

It also doesnt help that the WoW players themselves have a tendency to bash other MMOs that come out. Theres lots of reasons people dont like a lot of games though. So You really should just play what ever game makes you happy.

I'm sure the game is great, it's enough to keep many people sabotaging their own lives while making them pay for it with real money.
A few of my friends vanished off the face of the earth, only one has emerged pale faced and covered in blood happy that it's all over and he can get back to what he enjoys in life. Food, people and chicks as I gather.

I don't like MMO's because they eat time and WoW has the gall to charge you for it. Yes I'm aware it costs money to maintain and upgrade the game, but it's just more reasons for me to not play a MMO ever.

Personally I don't like MMORPGs because I believe you should only have to pay once to play a game...but that's just me

If all MMO's were free to play you would see a content update once a year maybe.
True, any word on Guild Wars?
How often are updates?

Apparently you're supposed to say whether you like a game or not before playing it. I doubt I'd be lying if said most (some exceptions) of those who shout "WoW sucks!" never played.

Seriously, no end-game content? Most of the fun happens when you reach 80; max out your equipment, raid, battlegrounds, and much more. Yes, I know you can do battlegrounds earlier, but you always end up with a sucky team against a big, strong team...

And grinding? World of Warcraft has the least grind I've ever seen in a MMORPG, and yes, I've played a few. (Rose Online, Ragnarök Online, Guild Wars (okay, this one has even less), FlyFF (I'd really love to erase that last one from my mind...))
Unless your the child of the WoW addicted parents who let her starve.
Yes, because if the newspaper says a family let their child die to play World of Warcraft, some guy killed his friend for selling his sword, and more such stuff, means it happens on a daily base and applies to all World of Warcraft players. By this logic, we can also say that all Muslims are terrorists, and all Catholics have (too) intimate relationships with little boys. I call that generalization. (I'm NOT saying these things about the Muslims and the Catholics are true. Hell, I'm even Catholic (as much as a bucket) myself. I'm just saying there are a few 'incidents', and suddenly people believe it applies to the entire group.)

In case you're wondering, no, I never go out on Saturday night. I never did that before I started playing World of Warcraft. I do hangout with friends a few times a week, but never the 'let's go to some place with obnoxious loud music, and drown our liver' kind. We usually go watch a movie, or some cabaret or something.

I did the 10 day trial of WoW. I experienced all there was to experience, as far as I am concerned. I agree with megapenguinx, that you should only pay for a game once. Hell, I still play Diablo 2- that's close enough to MMO for me.

I personally think that for 15 bucks a month can be spent in a more worthwhile way. Like paying for a truck stop blowjob. Sure it doesn't last quite as long, but it tends to be more gratifying than spending all those hours of your life wanking off in a neverending virtual moneypit. Or maybe it isn't. I will never have to find out.

I must say that I simply cannot agree with those that rally against WoW, because behind the same curtain are those who lobby against other videogames. The intolerant are intolerable, I am offended that you are offended, and other bumperstickers that express my distaste.

Besides, all these people who get addicted to WoW could be addicted to black tar heroin. I think WoW might be better for our economy. Even though the heroin is more fun.

Well the fact that they are making Guild Wars 2 kinda gives you an idea that they are finished.

I hear that SWTOR may be microtransaction based like GW which scares me. I like to earn stuff, not buy it on the offical website.
Micro transactions I think are worse than a monthly subscription. Like I said I like to pay once for my games

MMORPGs have the highest propration of anti-socials who do nothing but obsess over the game. WoW is the largest MMO worldwide. Ergo, WoW is the main target of bashing.

If you're comfortable as an MMO player and feel you have a balanced lifestyle, you wouldn't feel the need to get defensive over it.

But I'm sure your girlfriend mother is very supportive.

I would like to know why people bash wow, or mmos at all
I figure its because "people have no lives" or some stupid sh*t like that
I play wow, and i think it is awesome.
why all teh hate?
You know... i personally feel it's just a sterotypical excuse? i mean someone hated WoW, then more people followed the one guy, now theres like an anti-WoW cult, WoW isn't a real addictive game, i play i as well, i have a max level raiding character, but i still maintain a social life i still get above 80% aggrigates in school i sill manage to keep my instumental and art skills in form.

okay i know that sounded like i was being a pompous prick, i'm sorry. but i was just proving one aspect wrong.
I wonder what that aspect was supposed to be.
Protip: presenting an individual case or cases where a person can keep their habit (X) under control proves just about nothing about the overall addictiveness of (X).
And for those who ARE addicted to WoW, it's their personal choice really, it's not like Blizzard hires employees that sneak behinid you and threaten to jam needles in your eyes unless you carry on playing. it's the players own personal choice to play the game, so don't blame a game for the players actions ?
That's an either-or fallacy. That people are responsible for their own choices to consume (X), and should alone be legally responsible, does not absolve the moral responsibility of someone who makes (X), IMO.

Would you be proud of creating a new tobacco-like product that has no positive effects other than slight euphoria for the first few doses, and has numerous health risks, when you know through research and statistics that close to 90% of the people who try it will get addicted?
Do i see a link here between people blaming WoW for being addictive and the Mothers who blame Manhunt for their nutcase child who just blungeoned someone to death with a hammer?
Hopefully not, because you'd be mistaken.

The link between violent games and violent behavior is far from conclusive, and it's usually a parent's fault if a child has access to Manhunt in the first place.

Fun activity is always a tad mentally addictive. Some people say they are "hooked" to gardening or building model railroads. Games are praised for being "addictive". But there is a difference between "so fun it's addictive" and plain "addictive". The difference is that addiction makes you feel worse when you aren't doing the thing you are addicted to. That, in turn, makes the activity appear more fun. An emotional illusion, so to speak. Having a decent break, which lets the addiction fade and restores your "baseline" state of mind, the activity doesn't feel as good. Sometimes it feels downright awful.

Now game designers, especially those of MMORPGs, are not ignorant of addiction. They make a ton of design decisions in a MMORPG that feed addiction, even at the cost of genuine fun. The product doesn't need to be much fun at all when the customer is hooked, right? In my book, that attitude is the same as designing the "new tobacco".

Why do people hate WoW you ask?

Well IMHO, because it sucks. You will probably say "well look at all the subscriptions" and I say 80% of the player base is 13 and under and that sort of crap appeals to children and some adults. WoW is just crap.
Sorry here's an old favourite of mine I am the youngest (14) of my 300+ guild.

Also OP and many of the new escapees in general, punctuation and grammar are your friends!

Thats a load of bull btw, i play about 2 hours a day on weekdays, and about 6 hours at night on weekends
Do you realise how much that is? i only spend about half an hour on my computer on weekdays as it is, and even then sometimes I just don't. But 6 hours on weekends? That's way too much. My opinion of WoW still stands, which is that it's not at all a bad game, just cripplingly addictive to many people, not to mention expensive.

I think the end of the South Park episode on WoW summed it up for me, at least in my interpretation. They were the most powerful players on the planet. After ages of grinding and leveling and defeating the scourge of the community, what could they finally do? "Play the game."
This is my problem with WoW. I don't want to invest so much time and money with the hope that I can actually start to have fun at level 80, months later, or more. A game is about the journey, not the destination. A game that is fraught with boredom until the very end would never stand up to to demands of the gaming community. Why does World of Warcraft get a free pass?

While I don't agree with people who just blandly bash a game without playing it, personally I have yet to find a person bashing WoW who isn't in some roundabout way... correct.
