I'm probably just being a Cynic - but it won't work.

The grind is what people expect from MMO's and It's what they get - the action way has been tried and tested, but World of Warcraft has grind right up the arse and it does just fine.
Star Wars Galaxies used to be AMAZING until sony screwed it up, making it more like WoW in order to atract more people to the game...

All the people I know that played WOW, have now quit playing it. They need something to bring back the MMO freshness and cash.
Anyways, the new IP will be based on generic Sci-fi. Humans, humanlike aliens, and plant creatures will be my guess.

I played the free trial of that game when I was young..er, and I loved it.

I played a Smuggler - it was just like a third person shooter.

Hopefully The old Republic smuggler will be like that.

Wouldn't it be funny if it wasn't a Sci-fi FPS? Think about it for a sec, Blizzard seems determined to make something totally original, and if it were a sci-fi, World of Starcraft would make the most sense given the popularity of the brand.

Cynic? I'm not familiar with that class.

Well, if someone would succeed setting a new norm for MMOs, I think it would be Blizzard.

And I'd be interested in something new made by Blizzard.
You honestly think blizzard would do anything new for MMOs? WoW is just more of the same. Every expansion is MORE OF THE SAME. New quests, new raids all of it is just MORE OF THE SAME. Boring, dull sameness. There's nothing new about it. And it works. I doubt Blizzard would get off their cashcow.
Yea, it is more of the same but I'm looking forward to cataclysm. I enjoy the leveling process (the first time) every time they up the level cap so I figure a brand new 1-60 will be amazing.

But, I mean, I'm sure I'll quit about a month or two after that. I always do.

It'll probably end up something like borderlands if they get it to work.

You're being a cynic....I believe any idea for a game can work as long as it's handled well....something that's very rarely seen of course giving the impressions that a new idea wouldn't work at all.

Anyways, I've seen a video from Blizzcom where a reporter asked a developer from BLizzard what they've been at least brainstorming.

The developer mentioned that they've thought about an MMOFPS, an MMORTS...so this might be possible.

And if anyone can make an MMOFPS work it's Blizzard, that or they'll just scrap the idea like they did with Starcraft:Ghost considering how much of a perfectionists they all are.

I'm certain I read that they were intending on running both WoW and their new MMO simultaneously, and that they wouldn't really compete with one another.
WoW has been around for five years, it's as big as MMOs can ever get but it won't last forever, Blizzard knows this and that's why they've decided to make a new MMO.

Beside, you know how long Blizzard takes to release a new game especially an MMO, by that time WoW might be celebrating it's 15 anniversary and I don't think it'll have any where near the subs it does now....0o

Other than saying I sorta like the idea of an FPS MMO, we really don't have enough information at all to judge anything about the game yet. I will say though that more than any other game developer save for BioWare, I trust Blizzard to put out nothing but Solid Gold AAA games at all times. They have NEVER put out a game that wasn't amazing.

When WoW came out it completely changed what people expected from MMOs. Hell, it redefined what "grind" meant. Before WoW, grinding meant that you were staying in one area fighting the same monsters over and over. Now it means traveling all over the zone completing quests.

Creating something new last time was what got Blizzard 11 million subscribers. There's no good reason to rule out them being able to do it again.

*Gasp*
Their expansions...expand on existing mechanics?

OT: Sounds interesting. I'm not into FPSs all that much, so I'll probably stick with WoW
They don't. They just copy and paste.
What MMO actually used phasing technology before WoW? Actually, do you even know what phasing is?

FLYING-EMU'S FORMULA FOR WIN

Step 1: Copy-paste pre-expansion Planetside into new game.
Step 2: Advertise as the new Halo/CoD
Step 3: PROFITS OUT THE ARSE.

At first I thought you were just trolling, but this is actually a good idea in a way O:

Every time a new MMO comes out they say "IT'S NOT ABOUT GRINDING, IT'S ABOUT SKILL" and it's always about grinding and slamming your face on your keyboard like a retarded seal.
I think an MMO FPS sounds stupid. Then again I also think the only good MMO to ever exist was PSO before it turned into a hackfest.
what lvl on pso were you? :D i got to 127 and then quit....I had such an awesome tsusemiriki J i quit before I could use the Elaysion (best weapon in game) :( I just got bored of doing the same friggin map over and over again. Also, the PSO II bosses were kinda boring. (favorite boss, dark falz, came from there though :D)

An MMOFPS? Never heard of that before. /sarcasm

But seriously, an online shooter done by a company who puts as much thought into their games as Blizzard, might turn out alright.
