the Scarlet Letter, " What we did had a consecration of its own..." Shuddup Hester

and A streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, My teacher assigned herself as Blanche everyday and read the part with a lame southern accent. That added to my hatred of it.

A farewell to arms.

Why its a year 12 english book, i'll never know.

Sentances that run into the 100's of words, and a grammatical structure that is generally non existant, this combined with boring writing meant i had to force myself to read it, and i was in pain, i really was.

These are all good books that you people are saying D:

for me, however, "Maximum Ride." Most god awful piece of crap ever craped out.
Holy shit! They actually made you read that for school? What class? And in what context? That series absolutely blew.

OT: 100 Years of Solitude. Just couldn't get into it. Love in the Time of Cholera was okay though.

Macbeth, anything else Shakespeare also. Aside from that, Lord of the Flies

Best was definitely The Outsiders.

Bram Strokers Dracula, it just seemed to take forever, i guess i extended a lot more out of it.
Thats what happens when a book is filled with letters, newspaper articles and diary. but a messed up book is As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner you know a book is odd when one chapter is only one statement, "my mother is a fish."

The Old Man and the *friggin'* Sea. Did not like it whatsoever. Though South Park's synopsis of it is kind of funny.
"Ee starts wid de old man, and hees job ees to catch de feesh, so he get in de boat to try and catch de feesh. So he catch de feesh, but the feesh is very strong, so the old man cannot reel in de feesh. So den he fight de feesh, some more, and he finaly catch de feesh!. But on de way home de sharks come and eat de feesh, and so... he no make money *sniff*"

Their Eyes Were Watching God
A Separate Peace
All Quiet on the Western Front
Heart of Darkness
A Lesson Before Dying
Things They Carried (Sorry fans of whoever wrote this, but COME ON. An entire chapter was dedicated to how all the stories were total shit so that it could "have the same impact as being in the war.")
Into the Wild
Hamlet
Wuthering Heights
East of Eden
How to Read Literature like a Professor

I ALMOST FORGOT THE WORST ONE. The fucking Count of fucking Monte fucking Cristo. In seventh grade. The unabridged version. Required to be read over Christmas break. I still have no idea what happened in that book, except he found money and killed a dude. Maybe dudes? Who fucking cares.

I think the only things I liked that I read for school were The Giver and 1984.

1. "The Giver" (or as my class called it "The Gyver") horribly boring and over done.

Wow, lots of good books in this thread. :3

The absolute worst I've ever read for school was a Dutch book (no surprise there) called "Het Verrotte Leven van Floortje Bloem". It's about a girl who, 'forced' by circumstances, becomes a prostitute.

Dear god that was the most pathetic, melodramatic piece of shit I've ever read.

I can't remember, but there was one that I hated by all means. Most I don't hate, just make fun of with my friends.

"Their Eyes Were Watching God"

I have no idea why that is part of any curriculum.
LMAO I had to read that last year. Didn't even write on it for the exams. There were much better books to use.

Probably "All Quiet on the Western Front", this year.

I really did not enjoy that book.
Probably one of my favorite books =(

i cant remember it had something to do with bees and some girl looking for her mother, uugh it was horrible.
Is that the secret life of bees?

For me it would have to be a tie between two they made me read in the second and third grade, two shitty books known as the web and ex-spelled. Sure I was young at the time and I can't expect Shakespeare from a book intended at a younger audience but to this day I hate both of those books with a passion.

Eugh... What's the name of that book.. It's a movie aswell..GRawg!

Ah! Stormbreaker! Man that book was bad...
Maybe its cause I was younger when I read it, but I love that book. haha, however, the movie was an atrocity.
I can't describe how much I agree with you, the character development in the film was non-existant. I have similar feelings about Eragon, though most people i know didn't even like the book.
