Um, I think you should actually try telling people what game the spoiler is for. Otherwise, no one's going to click it because they don't know if it applies to them or not.

I mean, fortunately, you were talking about FEAR and no one gives a flying shit about that game's story, but the principle stands.
already edited it :)

Well no complaining here and all, but just out of curiosity, what do you consider to be a good ending to a game?

Well, I like the endings of both Mass Effect games, I liked the ending to God of War 3 (I realize I'm in the minority on that one), Uncharted 2, both Modern Warfare games, and I think the ending of Fable 2 is hilarious. (Again, I realize I'm in the minority.)

So.....Yeah.

Master Chief - "This is Spartan 117, can anyone hear me? Over."
Command - "Isolate that signal! Master Chief, you mind telling me what you're doing on that ship?"
Master Chief - "Sir, finishing this fight"
roll credits
Pardon the expression, but that's the gaming equivalent of blue balls, because the Chief finished all of jack and squat.

I agree with Mass Effect 1 & 2, Uncharted 2, and the original Modern Warfare. I never really played God of War 3 yet, and Modern Warfare 2's ending wasn't as good as the first Modern Warfare's ending. And I believe I already mentioned not liking Fable II's ending, but I found it funny as well, in the "so bad it's hilarious" kind of way.

Back on topic: Fallout 3's ending was rather anticlimactic which is weird considering that you have a giant robot blowing shit up on your side, and they managed to make that feel anticlimactic. The same goes for Halo 3's ending.

Batman: Arkham Asylum had a less that loved ending for me. I saw it coming halfway through and hoped I was wrong..... I wasn't. BUT the gameplay made up for the ending.
I can forgive the game for not having much of an ending, personally, considering that it didn't have much of a story. The whole thing could fit on a Post-It: "Joker's up to Something Bad, Batman figures it out and stops him, the end."

I totally agree about the gameplay, though. This is the only Batman game that's ever made me feel like Batman.

Infinite Space. I just finished it after 50 hours and I can't FRICKING believe I wasted this much time on this horrendous ending.

Red Dead Redemption

I'm at 98.4% completion and can't turn it back on for more than 5 minutes without getting sick of Jacks whiny voice
I hear ya man, but for me I still like running around killing everyone aimlessly. Its so satisfying even with Jack's whiny southern voice.

condemned 2 (although that whole game after the hotel level in the beginning was pretty garbage). Also, any of the endings in resident evil that don't get you the 2nd tyrant battle/mansion exploding.

Fallout 3's ending wasn't as much of a cockslap as people say. It was even worse. Everything you had worked for, every change you tried to bring to the Wasteland, every hope and dream you created for your character is destroyed in a storm of plotty doom. To anyone who plays RPGs properly (that is to say, by role-playing as they should), the ending was so terrible it travelled through time and made the rest of the game suck.

A dozens angry Internet rants on the subject have yet to fully express my anger over this issue. I'm seriously considering starting a boycott on Steam to protest Fallout: New Vegas using the same sort of closed ending.

That one's up there for me. I didn't like the gameplay all that much compared to earlier ones, but the story was at least sort of interesting at the beginning when it was kind of mysterious. There were a lot of interesting places it could've gone. Unfortunately they managed to avoid all of them, and the more they explained about what was going on, the more ridiculous it got and the less I cared/like it/was even interested in it.

Out of stuff I've played recently, Indigo Prophecy (i.e. Fahrenheit: Think of the Children Edition) easily wins. It's like they had a very good 12 hour game/story worked out, but then six hours in they ran out of time/money, and the six hours of the second half had to be crammed into three hours, and everything abruptly stops making any sense while the writer's clearly pulling everything out of his ass. Rarely does a good idea go downhill so quickly.

Yea, that was lame

Really? I liked the ending. I mean, for the first time in a long time, you got to fight someone fist-to-fist. Not to mention, the concept on paper sounds incredibly awesome. A fistfight. With the POPE.

Area 51 (does anyone remember that game?) from 2005. You shoot some guys, solve a weird puzzle, and suddenly you are at ground level, despite having descended underground for THE WHOLE FRIKKIN' GAME and then the protagonist mutters something about not knowing what he is anymore. Well, that game wasn't terribly good, so I wasn't expecting anything spectacular.

Call of Duty (the first). Suffice to say that I don't even remember what happened.

And yeah, Borderlands, but that game wasn't about story.

Arkham Asylum's story was just typical comic book stuff. I found myself far more interested about the character bios and interview tapes, they were the real story of the game.

Bioshock. 'Nuff said.

All of the games I was going to list have been listed, so I'm going to break the rules and just list the worst ending to ANYTHING I can think off.

It is the Nicholas Cage movie, Next

So he can see into the future, and when he's with this one chick he can see further into the future. So they fuck. The movie then continues, blah blah blah, action sequences, then the movie ends. By Nicholas Cage's character waking up after screwing that girl. The entire rest of the movie, and it was more than half, was just a dream sequence.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
