I couldn't really say, as I rarely judge endings that strongly. I'm of a "the journey is more important than the destination" sort of person. It's not to say that I think the ending is unimportant, just that I can forgive a poor ending if the rest of the game/story was good.

Take Bioshock, for example. Sure it had a crap ending, but the ending wasn't the point of the game. The main point of the game is done being presented to you before you even get to the final sequence of the game, so while the ending is fairly weak, I'm able to forgive a little because it's that first 90% of the game from which I get my enjoyment.

I have to agree with you on this one. I didn't like the ending on it. I think it could have been done a whole lot better.
I'm gonna go ahead and blame LucasArts rushing the game out for Christmas for that one.

But off the top of the head, the worst ending I can think of is probably Fallout 3 minus Broken Steel. [sub]Original, huh[/sub]

KOTOR 2

Obsidian can't make proper endings to games.
Agreed.

I swear they put together the ending of KOTOR 2 in the window of about 5 minutes. It completely lacked cohesion and not to mention it was predictable. I mean the whole party facing their fears thing was a nice idea, but it completely undermined both the concept of immersion and your ability to follow the storyline.

Batman: Arkham Asylum had a less that loved ending for me. I saw it coming halfway through and hoped I was wrong..... I wasn't. BUT the gameplay made up for the ending.
Pretty much, I was hoping for something epicly foreboding at the end, but nooooo.

Well, I started playing Mask of the Betrayer, but I couldn't get into it. That spirit eater mechanic is particularly annoying, especially if you don't have a healing character and have to rest regularly.

After I heard something about you being unable to
fight the death god and free the souls from the wall of souls, despite it being one of your character's goals in the game
I gave up on the idea of completing the game.

And besides, as far as I gather you are the only one out of all your party who was... displaced from the ending of the original game.

I'd be interested to know if these rumours are true.
You might be happy to know they're untrue, you encounter two characters from the previous game (That I can remember!) and one of them even joins you for a time, it's from him/her that you discover the fates of your other companions as well as what happened immediately after the NWN2 campaign ended. I'm not gonna lie, the ending of NWN2's campaign really did suck, I agree with you fully there and even the little epilogue this character gives can't change that, but it's still better than nothing and Mask is a damn fine game in its own right.

As for the ending to Mask of the Betrayer, I'll just say this: It has one of those bitter endings like Planescape: Torment, where you discover there are certain things that simply cannot be defeated or overcome. Mask of the Betrayer actually shares quite a few themes with Planescape, fate being among them. There are however a few chances to deliver some righteous butt-kicking to evil-doers, as Minsc would put it, so it's not a depressing finale... not really... alright, I sorta feel sorry for one character since no matter what you do their ending is grim, but I wont reveal who and although slightly depressing, it's an ending which makes sense. The rest however depends on you, there *are* multiple endings this time and some are vastly different than others.

I'd encourage you to keep playing. The spirit mechanic can be a bit annoying, but it's there for a reason and if you really find it *that* bad there are mods that remove it. Actually I'm pretty sure there's a simple console command to remove it as well.

And the fact that to understand what the fuck just happened there should have been a 3rd game, and they never made one, mind you that since TOR will be made by biowear I will play it, because I hope they can clear up what happened. And I do I have to say I played this right after playing Halo 2 and litterly wanted to hurt someone, I mean hell thats 2 games in a row with a cliffhanger ending!

You're going to be disappointed I think: The Kotor MMO takes place long after all the characters (Save maybe the droids) will be dead, plus it seems that Bioware are largely ignoring Kotor 2 since the higher-ups didn't much like that games grey take on an otherwise white/black setting from what I understand.

Your best bet for a satisfactory ending is the Restored Content Mod that was recently released. It's not perfect, but I replayed Kotor 2 with it when it first came out and definitely approve. Playing the game with and without this mod are like two different games, it's a remarkable piece of fan-work, and the ending makes so much more sense now.

Makes me wish Obsidian had been given full time to finish the game as it had a ton of potential. Alas, this is probably as good as it's going to get!

Indigo Prophecy. Seriously, it's like the script-writers forgot what they were doing and made something up on the fly.

So how much content does this mod actually add and what exactly does it do?

Thanks for the link I'm going to have to look into that(and a PC version of KOTOR 2). And hell I'll still play TOR because it's the only MMO that has damn near ever gotten me excited to play it.

The Saboteur had a pretty poor ending.

You shoot the ultimate bad guy, and then you just continue playing.
I was going to post this. I went through all that crappy gameplay just to "end" the game with "It's never over" in a bad Irish accent?

At least jumping off the Eiffel Tower was fun...

Army of Two: the 40th day. It ends with you having to choose between destroying a city (mabey they never show it blow up) or killing your friend (and then you find out the bad guy was bluffing all along)

fuck that shit! It's like the developers were forced to work on a property they didn't like so they decided to shit all over it.

Fallout 3. The Broken Steel ending was just an addition that felt like a sidequest.

Silent Hill Homecoming. Maybe it's because most of the other SH games have such amazing endings, but I could see that plot twist coming a mile away. Also, I killed the final boss on my first try, unlike the second boss, that freaking giant doll.

It does exactly what the mods name implies: It restored content into the game.

Kotor 2 was actually shipped in advance of when it was supposed to be by Lucasarts, forcing Obsidian to finish up their work as quickly as possible and cut much of the content they'd had planned for the game. However rather than delete everything, they simply closed off the unfinished content and left it on the disk. Voice-overs had already been recorded and everything, but without time to actually incorporate them into the game they were just left unused.

This mod essentially takes everything that it can and re-implements it into the game. There are a solid few hours of gameplay restored, plus countless fully voiced dialogue trees. Things like the HK factory were re-implemented along with numerous cut quests and party-dialogue.

Not perfect: There's still an entire planet missing and it's still rough compared to the polished shine of the first Kotor. But everything everywhere is pretty much done and I can only think of one thing I didn't quite understand about the ending after having played through it using this mod.

Hell, with this mod installed I actually find myself torn between which of the two Kotor games I prefer.

If you can find a copy of Kotor 2 on PC cheap and enjoyed what you experienced of the game till it abruptly fell apart, I'd say go for it. The mod makes it more than worth the couple spare bucks it'd cost if you're a fan!
