Well, there was this one time I was shot in the head.

But I assume you're making a metaphor, in which case... I wish Mount & Blade had better goddamn graphics. It's surprisingly in-depth, and sword fighting does make a decent change from blindly firing at targets I can barely goddamn see, but the grahics work looks like it was made 10 goddamn years prior.

Can't say I do. I stopped caring about graphics a while ago.
Well, Dragon Age: Origins did surprise me when I got in game the first time I played...

Deus Ex (the original). I played it for the first time last year (over the summer) and boy, did it look bad. The voice acting in some parts (Hong Kong) was worse. At the very least, it was a lot of fun.
^THIS

I literally didn't play passed Liberty Island because the game looked so terrible.

Playing certain PS1 games on a giant fancy TV..it's weird looking at pixels on an LCD screen. Other than that i don't put much of my opinion on a game based on it's graphics. I care more about the part where i am able to start pushing buttons.

Most of the PS2 games I go back to do that at first. After the first hour I get used to it again.
For some reason it seems like games from the last gen didn't age well at all. I dug out Fuzion Frenzy at a party recently and a lot of us couldn't stand to look at it.

Dwarf Fortress. If it physically kicked you in the shins when you started it up it wouldn't be much less user friendly, mouse support is either non-existant or in the form of dodgy mods I can never get working, your little minions think it's a good idea to go for a drink of their highly flammable booze while burning to death because they tried to swim through a river of lava and it's undoubtably the most detailed "Here is your own world, do something interesting with it" kind of game in existance.

It's utterly fantastic.
I have to use a graphics pack to play because it's nigh on impossible for a red green colorblind person to play ASCII... lol.

To be honest, I don't really give a goddamn on if the game's graphics are good, as long as it's fun. I pop in Super Mario Brothers every so often, and that's just 8 bit pixels there, and sometimes I like that better than GTAIV, with it's (YMMV) good for it's time graphics.

Well, I'll admit to being the rarity on the escapist who does care a lot about graphics. Old games become nearly unplayable for me, particularly if I've played sequels to the game with better graphics.

A specific example would be Morrowind though. I love the game, but I have a whole bunch of mods on my pc version to make it higher definition and fix some of the animations. I played a vanilla version on an xbox recently and oh god... I forgot how bad it was before I fixed it up... (and yes, I do remember that Arena and Dagerfall were worse, but I didn't play those nearly as much, nor did I mod them as much).

Yeah same goes for Nethack and stuff like that, so awesome to play but rather than using a powerful wand and hoping to god Anhur it's a wand of death so you can slay the dragon you're using a powerful / and hoping it's a /oD so you can slay the D.

Just started playing Condemned: Criminal Origins. It's weird to think that THAT is what graphics were like, even on X-Box 360, only 7 years ago. It's crazy how far things have come even on the same system.
Too true. Amazing the envelopes they can push, even just using the same hardware. Happens every gen: they really get used to a new hardware. Jeff Gershem (spelling?), then of Gamespot, arguably fired for giving a bad review to a game, asked aloud, after Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox, could graphics ever get any better? The answer came on the 360. At the time, Condemned made me sick to my stomach I thought the graphics and hitting hobos with melee weapons so realistic. Now, things like "Prey" look stone age next to "Black Ops". Sadly, every time they get good at pushing the envelope, they start new consoles! This time, we should have cutting edge for a good 2 years before that happens.

I didn't know Morrowind got that good. I tried Oblivion on PC recently and thought it broken. Nope. Just old by today's standards. That it came out on the same hardware as Skyrim is amazing.

It is odd so many escapists don't care about graphics. I have so many friends that can never go back, even a little. Got a buddy that would not play Star Wars 2, the one that ends with your guy vs a Lizard Syth, pretty for the time, but could not go back to it after seeing the graphics of half life 2!

Thief 2. Fired it up to try to relive some nostalgia and was horrified by how bad the graphics were. The buildings reminded me of Minecraft, and not in a good way.

Was the game good despite the graphics?

OT:None really.I can happily pick up and play a NES game or a PS2 game and everything in between and the graphics don't bother me at all

I honestly have no idea what it is. The game looks fine, but it's the only game I've ever played where after 15 minutes I just have to stop. I can't put my finger on it, it's not ugly and there's not a lot of flashes or anything...

And even if it was ugly, I play starcraft I on a regular basis, I don't mind bad graphics.

Maybe you just have a subconscious dislike of gorillas?Perhaps because of some traumatic experience at at zoo when you were young

Seriously though that is weird.Do the original DKC games on SNES affect you the same way?
