To contrast this guy's thread, [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.300871-Best-game-AI] what game/company do you think has the worst AI?

For me, I'm gonna say Capcom, and every game with AI. Why?

KOEI/Dynasty Warriors. I really doubt any other company created a bunch of AI as uninterested in the fighting as the peons in DW series. It's like "OMG, It's general chen, what is this feeling, my limbs won't move, my hands are shaking uncontrollably, I'm just going to stay right here and wait for the mighty general Chen to smite me with his gigantic war fan." - Random peon #529

Somehow, playing as General Chen, is mildly entertaining, until Lu Bu shows up.

I'm pretty sure most Bethesda games have quite bad AI. Oh and Alpha Protocol... Just Alpha Protocol

One of the worst AI's I have played with are the bots in Red Orchestra. They never take cover, and they move very slowly. The bots are generally used as cannon fodder on the servers.

Mind Jack, the AI on that robot boss that shoots the ground and walks a few steps forwards then backwards.

The worst AI I've ever seen in a game?: Homefront

I swear, your allies in that game are passive-aggressive to the enemies at best, to the point where they don't respond or come to my aid when one walks right past them and shoves his rifle-butt up my arse.

because of that, I'd say Kaos Studios, but they're defunct, so that doesn't seem fair, so I'll just say THQ in general.

As far as friendly AI goes, I'd say Epic's Gears of War series takes the cake. Considering you're supposed to keep Dom alive it's absurd how bad his AI is. Every time he sees a group of enemies he rushes straight at them, gets downed, and then expects me to get to him within the next 20 seconds. Of course if he dies you have to start at the last checkpoint all over again.

As far as enemy AI goes, I'll give that honor to the combine soldiers in Half-Life 2. Seriously, you can trick them into not shooting you by holding a box in front of your face. What am I solid snake?

Call of Duty Black Ops. It frustrates me how friendly AI retreats while leaving me with enemies at infinite spawn point. They certainly shoot at them, but I've never seen them get a single kill. So I take a closer look and they're often shooting at the wall they're hiding behind in.

Didn't bother finishing the game after wards

Well the AI for those games is so simple that there's really no point in mentioning them. Besides, the AI isn't really terrible, just mediocre in every way possible.

No, because the Survivor AI is too dumb to use mollies or pipes or anything. Also, they choose rifles a lot.

As for the Infected, their AI is pretty much, "See Target, run at target, attack target." The special infected don't fare much better, honestly. Case in point, I once saw a Smoker try and hide from me behind the yard sale table in Heavy Rain. Seriously, he didn't move. Just stood there, giggling to himself, certain that he was invisible.

Edit: I meant to imply that they're mediocre-level bad, but not the worst.

Crysis 1's AI isn't very good, but maybe that's just the 95%-of-what-you-fight grunt soldiers (until you fight the aliens that is, and they just love bullets). Brink has pretty bad AI in my opinion.

Dynasty Warriors 4 was pretty good, the AI was pretty unforgiving at times and most of the time they seemed to make it their life's goal to never let you perform a jump charge attack. That and they would actually use proper combos, even the privates, and sometimes even use musou attacks.

And don't get me started on archers...

Edit: Who's General Chen by the way; are you referring to Chen Gong, Chen Tai or are you just making fun of Chinese names like so many other people do?

Resident Evil: Outbreak (File #1 and #2). They got killed easily (and used all of your healing items in the process) or used up precious ammo killing enemies that didn't need to be killed and probably just respawned anyways. It's a shame, because the game was built for online play, and since the servers are offline, the game is useless now. I had tons of fun with it.

i dont know, while playing with my brother on expert the AI is so fucking horrible, they dont shoot half the time. Granted that on lower levels they arnt as horrible (but who in their right mind see l4d or l4d2 challenging on anything but expert must be knocked in the noggin)but once you set it on expert they become about as helpful as the drooling "special kid" that sits in the back of the classroom you cant help but make fun of in your alone time

Oblivion's possibly, although to be fair I think its less their limitations and more how broken the game becomes when you have 100%+ Chameleon; you can walk right up to them and pound away and they just stand there and take it. Other that that, it running into walls, incessant friendly fire (so funny to watch them fight among themselves), stand around for six hours doing nothing and then go to the pub. Its not really that its bad, its just that it feels inappropriate for the game...

Yeah, and the fact the enemy AI seems so limited doesn't help either; they always use the same cover spots and the enemy AI ALWAYS shoot at you when you're close, even if there is no reasonable way the could have heard me sneaking up behind them in the middle of a particularly loud gun-battle. Oh and add to the fact that 50% of the time they will run across the room to melee you with a rifle but rather than, you know, SHOOT you with said rifle. Oh and they often stand out in the open often, getting themselves shot very fast.

Edit: Edited for appalling grammar

The companions in Diablo II weren't exactly the smartest of the bunch. Another one that comes to mind are hostages in Counter-Strike 1.3. I'm sure I've met worse, but those two are the first that come to mind.

In all fairness, Bethesda games are all open-world sandboxes, so it's much more difficult to plan and script AI behavioural patterns, knowing that they'll have to function well in a wide variety of environments rather than just a few specially designed ones. It is, however, still atrocious for the most part.

They were zombies, what do you expect? Of course they're not particularly intelligent, but they're not supposed to be.
