And I don't mean the half hearted attempts you find online, I mean the ones you pay money for. Got a bad experience?

The worst I've ever come across is Shadow Hearts Covenant. It was just so vague. It rarely offered actual solutions and was more interested in telling you what will happen when you figure out what you're supposed to do. Fortunately there is an amazing and free guide online. But damn, I paid money! Bastards!

The worst of the Final Fantasy guides is FFIX, which notoriously offered most of the good info as online content, which I believe doesn't exist anymore. But you can find anything online these days. Unlike SHC, it isn't vague and will get you through just fine.

Furthermore, wtf is up with Kmart selling Assassin's Creed II guides for $50??? EB have always sold their soft cover guides for $25 as far as I recall. How's a massive chain like Kmart coming to a price like that?!

I do, but I never finish anything without a guide. I don't use them 100% of the time, but I like to have clear maps and know where all the good items are.

Discovering gamefaqs was like discovering masturbation.

Don't have to pay for the same result.

That aside, guides are a waste of money, and anything without the ability to search at the speed of light is just too slow for me.

I'm surprised there is still a legitimate market for printed guides with the wealth of the same information on the internet.

Maybe they've tapped into the same logic defying magic as porn mags?

Apparently the Tales of Vesperia guide is pretty abysmal with forgetting some titles and adding one or two not in the game. But with the internet it has rendered paying guides alomst obsolete.

If that isn't used in all future Gamefaqs marketing, there's no justice in the world. Brilliant :)

I believe bought guides still have their place. They're generally excellent for detailed maps, and laying out side quests. The simpler games are easily handled by gamefaqs, but the monsters like FXII really do benefit from a book guide.

The only game guides I've bought since I got the internet have been the Final Fantasy guides because there is just so much I swear some bits would be impossible without it. (probably the point *dons tinfoil hat*

I had a game guide for Breath of Fire II. My problem was the fact that at least 1/3 of the pages repeated. So from Frog's quest to getting to Rand's mother, I had to figure a LOT of stuff out on my own.

I never bought a &*^$ guide again. Thank you Gamefaqs!
