We've all been there, from the lack of hit markers on Call of Duty to enemies who just won't die on GTA. What is your best (well...worst) or funniest hit detection story?

The one that comes to my mind was on Red Dead Redemption a few nights ago, I saw a enemy on a horse riding near me, so I shot his horse in the head and him once in the heart with a High Powered Pistol, he fell off the horse and faceplanted the gravel road and flipped over twice, he started to get up and I shot him again in the spine, he started getting up again, I shot him in the neck, he was still moving so I switched to a moletov and lit him on fire, still took him a good 10 seconds to die.

What are your stories?

In Dark Souls I played briefly as a Sorcerer class. I got through the Undead Burg starting noob area with mostly no problems. But then I saw one enemy left at the end of the corridor. So I tried to pick a fight with him.

Turns out it was a Black Knight who tried to kick my arse. So I lured him out to a more open area and we went to battle. I kept my distance and Soul Arrowed the fucker repeatedly. He was down to really little health, so I fired one more...

...the thing then literally went straight through him to impact on a wall behind him. Literally, it just phased right through him. I did bring him down with another one, but that was still bullshit.

I was in a bar once, and I kicked a guy in the balls, and some completely other guy said "ow, my balls!"

Morrowind...I once had a low level fight with a mudcrab and didn't hit it once despite desperate flailing, no lie. (I am aware that it has to do with hit calculations...but come on...)

Street Fighter games. You'd think a fighting game would have something more sophisticated than a few rectangles to determine collision. The Shoryuken (dragon punch) in particular offends common sense. I have frequently found myself punching Ken or Ryu in the torso as he sails upward only for my opponent to register a hit on me. It hits you even when you are crouching, something a glorified uppercut should not do.

Hondas' torpedo is also a bit wonky. Jump and land on his back while he does it and he will hit you.

Well done sir, for having an avatar from Bottom and making me LOL!

OT: One time in Skyrim I was sneaking quite far from an enemy, ready to snipe them with my bow. I shot and for some reason it went through his head, that would of been an insta kill. The guy got alerted and started attacking me, which ruined the whole sneaky way I was going through the dungeon in.

The exact problem with Morrowind. The combat system was terrible.

Other than the typical problems in Black Ops (another terrible hit box game), I really can't recall any others, but thats probably because I've been playing a lot of games that don't really require you to aim. :p

Oh once I was standing at Booty Bay in WOW. I was waiting for the boat with my hunter pet beside me.
This high level hunter decides to kill my pet. He takes the shot but then my pet evades and he gets beaten up by the guards.

It was kind of funny and tragic at the same time.

Skyrim: I shot a mudcrab 6 times and every one phase through it. I eventually had enough and punched it to death but that was annoying.

Play Red Orchestra 2 and you'll have a million stories. One that stands out to me is the time me and an opponent we're in a small room, each of us emptied a full clip of machinegun fire and each other and neither of us suffered a hit. We had to try to melee each other to death, (I won.) But seriously, Red Orchestra 2 is fun, but the hit detection is nonsense.

While playing COD Black Ops, I had a grenade thrown at me. Said grenade landed at my feet, and detonated almost instantly (the thrower having properly 'cooked' the device)...I walked away from the explosion without a scratch. That being said, I was promptly shot once I got into the open.

I had something similar happen last night to me. It was a Balder knight charging straight at me. I shot a soul arrow and it inexplicably missed the banzai balder (flat ground, he was headed straight at me just outside of pike range).

The black knights are kind of wonky too. They seem to have magic extendo range with some of their attacks, as do those bloody bush monsters who can somehow attack through walls and love to hug.

Not sure if it counts as collision detection but every person I attack in skyrim the blood comes out of their crotch. Every time without fail.

The first thing that comes to mind is playing Kane and Lynch 2. When you normally shoot someone, a little white X pops up where ever the person got hit by the bullet. Of course this can have some pretty funny implacantions, escpecailly when you shoot someone point blank with a shot gun. So many X's

I used to play Call of Duty like you, then I took a bind hip fired, panicky 50 cal. shot to the knee... which is invisible, containing my heart and brain, growing 3ft above my head. Every other match. I swear there's a way to have that limb removed as a hit box in most modern FPS'.

In Saints Row 3 you now get a similar hit marker in the crosshairs; nothing like running over a group of enemies at 100mph to see the thing go sporadic, then have one or two rain down on the bonnet for a few more pings of hit detection... then watch as one gets up so you gruesomely squish him against a wall, back off and see him get up again. Run him down and park on top, he gets up next to the car... Gotta shoot random's like him to keep them down.

This post looks really morbid, but it's just the game.

Are you sure you didn't cast sanctuary on the mudcrab by accident? :p

I think my character actually might have stabbed herself or something she was so useless...

Have you guys ever played any F2P shooters? The hit detection is normally fucking horrific - it can sometimes take in excess of a whole damn second for a hit to register on some bastard.

Lol. If she had trouble hitting a mudcrab I'd hate to see her fight a cliffracer. Fuck those things.
