Worst Main Character to a Videogame

I disagree with any gordon haters out there. I liked the character and that you did feel bad bcause he has to go save these people. He is just kind of one of those wrong place wrong time... also you can submit your own dialouge to a character this way. i personally hate it when some character 's voice has to ruin every aspect of his awesomeness.... Mario seems that he would have a tough time saying something intelligent from all those mushroms he's eaten. Master Chief's dialogue annoyed me as well. I like the silent character because even though you know nothing about them they are not destroying your compassion for them because they have go and open thier talk-holes.

Cloud and Squall. I hate those sorts of brooding "heroes". There's no way anybody would continue to rely on someone with that kind of attitude.

I despise all silent protagonists. Having one in a game doesn't make it easier to project myself in... it just makes me wonder why this piece of cardboard was included in the game at all.

Ayumi from X-Blades is my gut answer since you instantly hate her within 3 sentences. Lara Croft also comes to mind, especially her recent titles from the guys who've been trying to milk gaming's first sex symbol until she can't feed her own children (if she hadn't now been categorized as having a disdain for men).

Now moving on to the men Atsuma from Enchanted Arms is a big, giant glowing example, pretty much Ayumi's counterpart in terms of, 'Anime character created by non-Japanese studio.' Rather than try to avoid Anime cliches, Atsuma panders to them so heavily you just want to cry. The Prince from the latest Prince of Persia (I'll call it the Anime trilogy since they seem to want to make a sequel) deserves honorable mention for what he does in the ending, but I liked some of his dialog and thought he was decently characterized so he's not quite so bad. Serge from Chrono Cross will be getting mentioned though, being an absolute tool unlike his mute predessor.

The main character from FFXII (Vaan) contributed nothing and was useless.

i always saw balthier as the main character and vaan as his ***** I MEAN STEED,

Well he does say "I play the leading man" right at the beginning of the game. You think Square would be to less lengths to make it well known Vaan was a useless tag along that served no purpose other than to annoying the party with stupid questions? I mean how many times does the game just put him down clearly? I swear it all but says "He's useless, haahahaha USELESS!" And they wonder why no one likes him?

That said

Vaan - Shocking right? I loathed him with a passion, first main character in my near nineteen years of gaming I refused to keep in my party. Pointless waste of time, Square should have left Basch the lead like originally intended.

The Prince (uikoden V). - How do you develop a love story when the only thing the male lead does is make stupidly overdramatic expressions?

You know all silent leads deserve this because frankly it is laziness, you do not connect better with a silent lead, you simply have no interest in them. Take Lunar SSSC, the main character Alex had less than half the dialouge compared to the rest of the cast however when the important moments struck, everything he said was solid. Just that little amount was enough to make you have an invested interested in him and his struggles. Of course Working Design was fantastic for their dialouge.

My point is no more silent leads, even a little dialouge can go a long way.

Edit: By the way, am I the only one here that really liked Tidus?

now you said it i think exactly the same. I loved the game but didnt get invovled like i did in say Saints Row or other games.

I've never actually played the game, but until I downloaded the demo, I thought that Yuri, the protagonist in Tales of Vesperia, was a woman. I know it's not unusual for RPG males to look like females, but this one just blew me away.

Isn't "yuri" a kind of Japanese porn, also? Sheesh.

I know this a belated reply but FYI, Yuri is also a german name, and considering Tale's inclination to pick names for their characters from just about every country, it's a normal thing. Besides, Yuri's one of the best protagonist of the whole Tales series, maybe of anything if I'm to say something about it.

OT: Geez, I don't play too many games >_> But one thing I despise are the "damsel in distress" types, or anything that squeaks at comepletely unnecessary decibuls (See Marta from Tales of Symphonia 2 for an ear splitting example) And there was that one chick in RE4 that got on my nerves just by looking at her and hearing "Leon!!!!!! XO" everytime I lost track of her

Excuse the double post, but I felt sorry for Tingle. Apparently he spent his midlife crisis dyeing his underwear red instead of getting a hot rod convertible and an equally hot wife. He must have made his mom so proud......
