Cloud. What a fucking crybaby. The only character worse than him is Sephiroth, who is basically Cloud except even more emo, girly, and pathetic.

I don't remember him actually F'n with the doom marine...I remember him finding his corpse and being all "damn thats one doomed space marine" or something like that. But did he actually fight one in any of his games? From what i remeber the corpse was somewhat of an easter egg just laying behind a hidden door or something. I think..i dunno AGES ago.

tidus and vaan, both bitches in there own right. i mean most main characters from final fantasy games sucked, but at least I could give them ridiculous names to ease my hatred.

You guys want a character with no personality? THE POKEMON TRAINER YOU PLAY AS HAS NO PERSONALITY! I mean, I love the games and all, but still... Ugh. Just... ugh.

But the winner for the 'Worst Video Game Main Character' goes to none other than Marche, from Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced. Why? Because he wakes up in a Final Fantasy-esque world, and what does he do? HE WANTS TO RETURN TO REALITY, and the only way to do that is to basically traumatize one of his friends.

Marche, you win my mega-douche award, because I didn't think that it was possible to find a video game character who was a bigger prick than Sora...
i liked the game but it helps alot if you think that marche is evil. i mean think like this. him and a huge crowd of ppl are trying to destroy the world and kill a kids (already dead) mother while parading across ivalice killing ppl... yeah and not to mention put his crippled brother (who can walk in final fantasy land) back in the damn wheelchair. marche is an evil son of a *****

Hi Guys,

Just came across this site and I'm quite simply shocked about how anyone could expect a game with such a lame main character could sell anything.

Just Look:

http://www.hexisle.com/

I thought, nah, it can't be that bad. But then I saw the in-game footage of the guy:

http://www.hexisle.com/media/dessert-desert-02/

Man, this character makes me soooo not wanna play this game. I mean, if the character were similar to Sonic the Hedgehog or something I'd be more than happy to play it. the levels look something straight out of Monkey Ball, which is a huge compliment, but damn this character just looks so, ARGH!

Sorry Cyan Worlds. Your Myst games were groundbreaking. But what were you THINKING!

Anyone care to share any other games with lousy main characters?
The chick from Heavenly Sword, hands down!

The main character from FFXII (Vaan) contributed nothing and was useless.
I think he ties with Tidus from FFX.
Not really
[spoiler/]The fact that sin was Jecht, who was Tidus father played a HUGE role in the plot and thus the game needed Tidus there.. Vaan could just as well of died in the beginning. Although granted Tidus WAS really annoying, no one's arguing that[/spoiler]

Gordon Freeman. Yes I said it. Now quote me and tell me who wrong I am.
He is not a main character, he is you.

In order to make you feel more "in the game" Valve has given him no dialogue or personality. What you get out of the game is not filtered through the characters personality, opinions, or thoughts. It is just you, and makes it a very unique experience.
It was unique, until every f*cking FPS started to do it.

Somehow I didn't like Faith from Mirror's Edge.

I shall now resist the urge to make a snide remark about this.

My most hated main character is Tidus from FFX. I'm sure there are people out there who like him, but he just seems like a whiny ***** to me.

Indeed. IMO Balthier should've been the main character...that would've been far more interesting.

The only problem I had with how they did that was if they are going to make him a shell for me why not do what KOTOR and Mass effect did?

I have to admit, I don't really see the point in most silent protagonists. How can you project yourself onto a character who's face, name and role in life has already been decided? I personally find it more of a barrier to my empathy for the character, since I have no real idea why the character is saving the world, except that he must be a mindless drone who does whatever he is told to do. So I don't get why people would empathise with the mute Freeman, yet scorn the faceless Master Chief, when the latter demonstrates a dry humour and a sense of purpose.
THIS IS THE TRUTH! If you want us to become the character, a customizable character must be in process, while just doing stuff in the environment. Just think of it as the ultimate form of free-roaming games. Fallout 3 almost had it right until they gave you a father figure, which doesn't look like you to begin with.

So while we're at it, all mute-characters already with their own name, face, guns and melee weapon mastery, and historical background, are the worst main characters. I just can't warm up to them since they already are SOMEONE!

Boss (The Main Character) from Saint's Row 2,

After it turned out he's a complete monster that places no value on human life, cares about no one but himself (Carlos excluded, although Boss probably would have killed him too if it would be beneficial to him ), did everything he has done up to this point to could gain complete control of Stilwater and will do anything to maintain that control and will kill his old friends outright out of cold blood without even listening to their reasoning (Julius had a very good reason for doing what he did you fucking inhuman asshole!).

Before this, I had always imagined that he was a good guy below that mute exterior that was doing what he did for the good of the city just like Julius, and sure, he might have been an asshole in the beginning of Saint's 2, but a lot of good guys are assholes, and he had just woken up from a 5-year coma caused by being on an exploding boat, so you'd kind of expect him to be a little pissed off... But Dear God was I wrong...

*Sigh*

...I liked him a lot better when he was a mute...
