Dead Space 2, Your Mom Will Hate It.

Seriously EA, are we being serious here...
EA is always seriously serious. Never question their seriousness.

OT: The commercials on Cartoon Network before AS comes on. I watch Adventure Time and its all I can manage just to get through those awful children's commercials. All of them. There are no OK ones. They are just all horrible. I vow that my children will never be influenced by that brightly colored, loud, obnoxious drivel. The show is worth it, though.

The whole "Your mom hates this" campaign reminded me of the 90s so much. It was just really cheesy and ridiculous.

Anyway, my vote is for John Romero's Daikatana. That was just bad.

A small vacuum store near by my house used to advertise with the slogan "We sell good vacuums". It's a little ironic if you ask me; it's as if all their creativity was "sucked" out of them. Haha, get it?

*sigh* I'm only fooling myself....*sob*

Coca-Cola once attempted to launch their bottled water 'Dasani' in the UK, this excerpt from wikipedia sums it up nicely:

Early advertisements referred to Dasani as "bottled spunk" or featured the tagline "can't live without spunk". These slogans were used seemingly oblivious to the fact that spunk is slang for semen in the UK.
Relevant. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J50HLROJmBs]

I think spunk is also slang here in the States, which makes you wonder how the hell that ever happened.

"What's the gumball so angry about"

It was from an old Extra gum commercial. For a few days it was simply an gumball in a gumball machine that was trying to get out, bouncing on he walls. It had window reflections for eyes and was blue if I recall. So finally on a Wednesday they let us in on it: the gumball was mad because Extra gum lasted so very long. The gumball sang a song about it too: "I'm an angry gumball, so jealous and high strung. Extra's flavor lasts so long, I pray your jaw goes numb!"

There was more to it, but that's all I remember. Since I remember it so well, their marketing campaign must have worked, right?

Hell no. I've never bought a piece of Extra gum since that day. That's how bad I feel that commercial was.

Wonder how much their marketing department makes...?

By the standards of advertising, the Ohio Lottery slogan is one of the worst I've heard: "You can't win if you don't play". Take out two words and you have "You can't win don't play". Truth in advertising, maybe, but lousy marketing.

Their old slogan was much better (assuming you want to sell lottery tickets), "You have to play to win!" It's all positive and tweaks the impulsive buyers in just the right way.

Apparently Dr. Pepper has a new, low-calorie drink called "Dr. Pepper TEN". The slogan?

Great job marketing team.
Catchphrase!

I absolutely love that commercial. I personally think it's tongue and cheek enough to be funny rather than offensive and stupid, but I can see why people would take issue with it.

Another vote for "your mom's gonna hate it" marketing for Dead Space 2. The game is rated Mature, so if I need to be mature to play it then who the fuck cares if my mom will hate it?! Come on EA as many problems as gaming has with younger kids playing mature games your whole marketing for the game is going to be "your mom's going to hate it"? Just stupid. Also the whole "sin to win" contest for Dante's Inferno deserves a mention.
These. Both of these.

"Without your information, who are you?"

An advertisement for data storage or something Apple I cannot remember but I really disliked the implication that without your digital information that you are nothing. At least that is what they were implying.
The marketers are projecting. You see, they are soulless, fake, hollow people who get paid to lie for a living. So to them, it seems that if they do lose their stuff, there's nothing left. They assume others are just as empty and so come up with slogans like this.

I don't know what head-on does, and I absolutely refuse to find out, because their ads make me want to fucking punch someone in the face. I know they're supposed to make me want to look it up, and I'm not going to be manipulated by those assholes.

(The above paragraph should be read in the voice of Lewis Black)

Battlefield 3's "Above and beyond the call"

I mean, I'm totally getting BF3 and am an active hater of CoD (For decent reasons mind you), but... Really EA? I mean "your mom will hate it" was bad. Really bad, but... REALLY? This doesn't even make sense to me, this seems like... fuck, what's the term for one company (Company A for eg) manipulating another's (Company B) advertising to make the advertisement have a subtle message to advertise their (Company A's) product? I can't remember.

Look, "Above and beyond the call" makes me think of CoD, when the ad should make me think of BF3. Seriously, EA's advertising has gone from painfully stupid to bad.

EDIT: YAY my avatar is finally working!
