The one where the French lost so bad from a bunch of Flemish farmers that they were so ashamed they didn't even record it in their history books. (But we recorded it anyway)

And the French had cavalery.

The only war that the French ever won.
A civil war.
What about Napoleon Bonaparte? He kicked ass all over Europe. Sure he got defeated in the end, but not after he gave us a damn good account of himself. It's only since like 1914/15 that the French military tradition has gone downhill :p

I woud say that the Great Siege of Malta could be seen as the greatest loss (for Turks) in terms of number disparity:

Ottoman army: 48,000 (w/ 6000 Janissaries, the best Ottoman troops)

Hospitaller garrison: 6,000 (w/ 500 Knights, their best troops)

The defense of Fort St. Elmo alone is mind boggling. Balbi's book on the siege is excellent.

The Battle for Endor. Oh, sure, the Eewoks won, but I get the vague impression that I did not, after having watched what could adequately be called " A pile of stuff a drunken George Lucas and friends found in his basement."

To add to the battle of the somme, which is widely considered one of the worst losses in history- the end result of the offensive, which lasted from July 1st to November 18th, 1916- was that the French and British gained between two and six miles, depending on the area at the cost of 630,000 allied men, and 480,000 German men- to out that in perspective, at the two mile points, that's two British soldiers per centimeter.

Yonker's (North of New York City) God damnit, if they had the right amount of ammo! They just could not hold them back long enough!
LOL. anyway, I'd probably say the various battles of the Somme in WW1.

My garden ants VS my malevolence and soapfilled waterpistol.

I was a cruel kid.
I'll raise you me and my cousins armed with that stuff you use for removing paint from walls vs anthill. and also, dropping 10-20 large ants next to the entrance of a underground small ants nest was one of the most awesome and traumatic experiences of my childhood.

also, every single invasion of Russia.
Aww no fair! We dont really have any good anthills in Denmark.

We did have quite alot of Woodlouse in our gardens though. Then I turned 9 ofcourse...

Was that a World war Z quote? You know that didn't actually happen, right?

OT: gonna have to go with everyone else and say Stalingrad.

Not sure if this is the worst but in 1700 the Swedish army absoloutly SLAUGHTERED the Russian Millitary.

8,500 swedes vs. about 40,000 Russians. Sweden suffered about 600 dead and 1200 wounded. While Russia had 10-16,000 men killed, 30,000 captured and almost all of their cannons taken. Russia was so horribly crippled by the loss Sweden probably could have marched halfway through Russia completly unopposed.

First Italo-Ethiopian War
or the battle of Adowa if you MUST have a single battle
Italy got it's butt kicked by Ethiopia.
It was the only time in the history of always where an African country defeated a European nation in military conflict.
Haha, Italy. Haha.
