It makes me sad, has the noble art of the longshot fallen that far?
Exactly, I've gone 33 kills with 1 death on the map Bog on CoD4 sniping, at the end of the game they start swearing at me and calling me a "Fucking camper." last time I checked kill cam on CoD4 makes it impossible to camp, and I was moving around the map, but whatever.

if someone is staying in one place in an FPS, especially one with grenades, they should only get a couple of kills before they get their ass handed to them.

In otherwords, the only people who complain about campers are idiots that don't know how to handle them.

Thank you for the following experience, Fallout 3.

Enter VATS. See target. You've got a pretty good chance to hit with your assault rifle. You could unload half a clip into their head before they knew what's what. Line up shots. Fire.

Watch helplessly as your character unloads all the rounds into the wall you are hiding behind.

GOD.
But Fallout is NOT a first-person shooter. While it's true, that such a situation happened a few times; specially when you have an obstacle that going to end up taking the bullet instead of your target, be it a car, wall or a random object, the fault lies in your character not having a clear line of sight on the enemy. The game will actually warn you when this happen.

When I see a guy with a P90 run up behind my team's sniper in COD4. I have UAV Jammer and an M1014. I unload two shots into the cheating scum, another two, then a full clip from a Desert Eagle. He turns round, immeadiate Headshot. That made me quite cross. I quit the game.
Man, that sucks.
An entire clip?
Yep. Four shotgun pellets and seven shots from a Deagle. He took more damage. He wasn't the only one though - I meet some kind of modded controller or cheater practically every match. I file a complaint about every one of the bastards. Including all those who use the reload glitch.

A little off-topic perhaps, but what happens when you file a complaint?
Just curious, are you talking about playing CoD4 on the PC or consoles? Because I swear, every time someone cries about 'hackers' just because they weren't lucky enough to get the 'kill', I feel like reaching through my monitor to give you a gentle slap on the cheeks and telling you to cheer up and focus on the game instead of, in 1337-speakz, QQ'ng.

It's sad that some people can't admit that some people actually are talented at playing first-person shooters, mainly those lads and gals, from competitive leagues.

The entire Counter-Strike community. Halo community too.
The elitist Quake community; since they are so small in numbers and always crying about their game never making it as the main game in any major tournament like CPL (rest in peace).

CS for me, which really introduced me to online and multiplayer gaming, and of course, LAN gaming with my friends, has always been a staple of what team play and strategy is all about in a video game.

Pubbing on the other hand, was really the bane of my online experience.

Teammates who decide to not help and laugh as their team gets slaughtered, usually taunting over the voice chat that "you aren't that good at this game". No, i guess i'm not good at a team game when my team is hiding in a corner somewhere blowing each other.

Those who interfere in the strategies of their own teams. Over 6 months ago, Me and a couple of friends were playing a custom match on Halo 3 and the goal was to get a bomb from the water to the top of the walls(It was last Resort, by the way.). This was accomplished by means of a mongoose, since there was so much suppressive fire. One of the players was, unfortunately, a six-year old, and he'd always hop on the back of the mongoose and prevented the one with the bomb from getting on. Even worse, Friendly Fire was disabled, so we couldn't just kill him. Even EVEN worse, If I remember correctly, he might've took the bomb himself and went on a suicide charge up the hill. It accomplished nothing, and The bomb was stuck in the middle of the battlefield. Going to get it was like getting your dog's ball from between the Trenches in WWI. Thankfully, he left the game later on.

Lag+MGO=Hell.
So true. That terrible episode when you waste a whole clip of an AK-47 on an enemy, just to have him run up to you, CQC, and slit your throat turned me off MGO forever.

[why do] people confuse campers with snipers:

A camper tries to abuse an opportunity or exploitable factor.
A sniper makes his own opportunities.
Snipers don't make their own opportunities, they look through their reticule until someone appears in it. Sniping isn't difficult, observe:

Simple reasoning: Snipers can be really far away. Sniper bullets are very powerful, especially when they hit a head. Snipers can kill someone without that person knowing about it.

These three facts equate to this: Sniping is a particularly easy way to kill people.

It's not skill based, as many people wish. There is no skill-based way to kill people in computer gaming, there won't be one until you're able to physically partake via virtual reality. I was a clan's sniper for weeks (and got the most kills) simply because, as i said to my clanmates, "I'm too damn lazy to mash the WSAD keys!"

And please don't start puking out some arguments about how "oh it takes mad skillz to get a headshot in the heat of battle" because it doesn't, it just takes luck and a quick trigger (/left mouse button) finger (which I defiantly have)... *enemy in targetCLICKBUTTON* .... *enemy in tarCLICK BUTTON* HEADSHOOOOTTTT BOOYAH
BOOOYYYAAAAHHHHHH

For me the worts moments in gaming history were the ones when some smartasses hacked and started running around in mid air above the map shooting everyone. Camping doesn't really p*ss me off (maybe 'cause whenever I wasted life on CS no one ever had the nerve to camp when my fist was within 10 meters)

Campers and stationary snipers are the same thing. There are no exploits in those maps, there are just places that you should not run in front of like a fool.

this is all just my opinion, if you think my aim's a bit off, well, urprobablyright
Uh... Sniping is a bit harder on a console then on a PC, and it also depends on the game, map, and other players. (Harder in COD then Halo for example)

Some people are really good at it, some are really bad at it, but some people are really good at running in a base and killing 4 enemies with a shotgun without taking damage, and others cannot.

Sniping does take some skill (especially in real life, but not going there), being able to lead the target, staying out of sight, and using the map to your advantage.

About "camping", as long as your not "spawn killing", I don't see a problem with it. It's a war simulation game! That would be like going back in time and telling soliders that they couldn't dig trenches, or use tanks, or set land mines, turrets, use snipers, or rocket/missile launchers b/c its "not fair". Hell, in a war, I'd spawn kill to, but since it is a game, you gotta have some sportsmanship

As far as being on topic, I'd have to say "Team Killing F*cktards"!

It's one thing to be new at the game, or distracted during a match, or just be bad, but to go around and kill people on your own team. That's pretty f*cking inmature.

But you played generic space marine #1.
He wasn't entirely generic though. He was original, awesome and had amazing facial expressions.

Halo 3 sniping is something special, gets you completely off your game if you were just playing a CoD or Battlefield.
