Denied access to a fair few restaurants, and once even a bus. Not in any Wetsern nation mind you.

Incredibly tame compared to some of the stuff I've seen.

The worst case of racism (with malice) that I've witnessed was a little thing called the Cronulla Riots.

The initial spark involved a group of Lebanese Australians assaulting some volunteer surf lifesavers. The witty response to this involved a mob riot on Cronulla beach by a pack of loud mouthed racists.

The outcome featured the bashing of anybody who didn't look "right" i.e. white.

Basically it can be summarised with the slogan "get out of my country".

Sad stuff.
What really annoys me is the role of the media in that.

Fucking talk back radio hosts with fake guests calling for a riot in order to boost ratings.

And then a riot occurs, for some reason. Inciting a race riot is not a good idea for PR stunt...except that it worked perfectly.

I worked with this 15-year-old-ish kid, he said to me, in the supermarket, with people around, while we were working, "Not to be racist, but there are so many fucking Indians around! They're everywhere!"

I was called a ... "Nazi" more times then I could count.
Yup, me too, but that was on account of my German background. Weird thing is, I don't even look distinctly German or Aryan. They simply took what they knew, which was that I had some German in me, and decided to make an instant link to the Nazis...

One of my various Uncles on my mother's side of the family is the most outright, non-apologetic racist I've ever met in my life.

Like once he was pretty horribly ill (I forget what with, I just remember being dissapointed when he got better) and when my Aunt tried to talk him into going into the local doctor's surgery (the main doctor there happens to be black) he immediately declared:

"I'm not going to be treated by that damn ******, I already got enough problems without him giving me ******-AIDS."

I was in the other room watching Star Wars at the time and overheard that perfectly clearly. To be honest I was, like, 7 at the time and didn't get why everyone got so mad at him after he said it, but looking back at it now it's pretty fucking horrible for him to say.

Then there was the time he flat-out told his daughter at a family reunion that if she ever dated a black guy he'd disown her and if she ever slept with a black guy he'd break her legs. Yes, he said that.

To be honest I can't think of any reason my family still associates with him still. Yeah he's family but even without the racism he's the biggest bigotted asshole ever. Seriously, he hates pretty much anyone that isn't a white, devoutly-Christian man.

In my school calling something "jew" is considered an insult. People all the time casually say "Thats jewish" or "you're a jew". And its so shocking how casually they say it not even realizing the sub-text behind it.

The same at mine, OP: I wasn't actually exposed to this, but an (American) family friend was (and now is) married to an Albanian man, and when this crazy veteran learned that he started screaming at her about how "He protected the country and its bullshit she wasn't marrying an American". It was very odd. Also, I've been accused of being racist for disliking people of a different ethnicity, not because of their ethnicity but IMO, they were douches! I believe in hating people because you know them and dislike them, not because of any uncontrollable prerequisites such as epidermal pigment.

The youtube tags are really strange around here, you must do this:
{youtube=fCFD-GfvK7Q}

So, the last part of the youtube URL, after the v=
Also, replace the curly braces with square brackets, obviously.

I have a friend - we're both white and from Scotland - who's quite racist, he calls a muslim friend of ours a terrorist, he makes frequent sheep jokes to a welsh boy in our school and he flat out refuses to eat anything polish. It gets annoying sometimes but he's a friend.

As for me I'm not a bigot but like everyone I do have occasional racist thoughts, I continually make fun of black people who call themselves 'Gangstas' not because their black but because they're so ridiculous.
To quote Chris Rock (A black comedian to any of you who didn't know); 'There are black people, and there are niggers. And the ******'s have got to go.'

Havent had a lot of issues with racism, as long as people can behave they're alright in my books, no matter the color.

As for 'funny' stuff, my late grandmother who turned 97 had some house help every day, but one time a gigantic black man came to give her her bath and she freaked out, racial slurs, threats, the works.
Now I dont condone her words and behaviour, but come on, she's 97 and have had the same 3 female house helpers for ages, why not give her a heads up or something or call the family telling us that the usual ones are on holiday / sick? And of course she got mad at me when I told her to take it as an experience.

Now as for being called a racist, i hear it 5 times a week or so, this is because I work as a taxi dispacther (The guy who says hello and takes your address when you call for a taxi) anyways, the majority of our drivers are forigners to some degree and I swear to god that most of them have paranoia!
I mean if a customer asks for a stationcar so he can bring his golfbags to France, then theres no way I'd send a small car, yet the driver of the small car feels he got cheated out of a trip and calls me a racist, thank god all calls are recorded and I have full control over their computer systems (Although I'm not supposed to use it)

I deal with jerks my way, doesnt matter what color they have, but of course if they're another color than mine it HAS to be because I'm racist.

I have someone in one of my classes and about half of what comes out of his mouth is a mocking imitation of a Aboriginal stereotype. Additionally he sits nears a German exchange student and can't seem to go a lesson without making a comment about Nazis, comparing him to Hitler or mentioning the outcome of WWII. When the teacher told him off for this his response was shouting 'Ha ha, we won won the war.'

I live in the country, and a lot of old people here are racist to some degree.

The grandfather of one of the guys that goes to my school was selling his camper, and had put an ad in the paper. A black couple were walking up to the house to check it out, and he appears on the porch with a shotgun in hand and says "I don't like niggers on my lawn". And then the couple turned around without missing a beat and walked back to the car.

THE END.

Well, the most hurtful kind of racism i have experienced was actaully from my ex.
We had a little argument and for some reason she called me racist (she is black and i am from norther Europe so you cant get much wither than that i guess). And that hurt a lot.
She did like to use the the fact that she is black more than once when we argued.
And the argument had nothing to do with race. And as i pointed it out, she was trying to victimise herself by making it a race thing. And sadly there are a lot of black people who do it. Also, when we were dating and often when walking aruond in town holding hands and stuff, i noticed black buys giving me a bit of an evil look there just because i was holding a black girls hand.

Also, i am from Estonia, and i was reading the online newspaper from there and they were talking abuot an Estonian girl who is dating a black buy in the states (he is a music producer so it is kinda enough to make it to the society pages), and the amount of racist slurr that i was reading there made me actaully sick.

And once before that there was some article abuot black people. And then again tehre was a lot of people there who called black people almost waste of space and uneducated and so on. But then again, all of my black friends have either finished uni or in uni now. All smart and educated people. And yes, we do some black and white jokes there amongst ourselves. Also, most of them are over 30 or even 40 years old.

So yeah, sadly i have seen racism against both white and black people.
Then again, i live in England and it is a lot better than many other places in the world.

I swear that at least two threads a day get written about racism and sexuality.
This subject has been way overdone. Just leave it alone!

That is truly awful. Do you mind if I ask where you live? I grew up in rural Australia, and I thought I saw racism at the more extreme end of the scale, evidently I did not. Not even close.

I was about to ask about your state too, in the very least to avoid such a hellhole. Icehearted, I know you spoke about the difficulty of landing a stable job to get the income to get the hell out of there, but still... don't give it up!
I live in the southern part of Idaho. Choosing to give up would be a welcome change of pace (edit: because it would imply I have some kind of actual choice), but for me there isn't a lot of other options, so giving up or more of the same are about all I have to choose from. Right now I'm just trying to find my way out of here, which again I've been working on for 20 years. If I could hold down a job that would at least be a start. It's been so long, I can't really even imagine life without this crap.

For me this growing collage of personal experiences has sort of melted into two very simple schools of thought; I am ethnically inferior to anyone that is not black and white, and that the state I live in will always be hell.
From the examples you give, sounds mostly like you're expected to feel inferior to anyone who is not white. [sarcasm]Which of course has never happened in American history and I'm sure, this being the Escapist, someone will be along presently to tell you how they skinned their knee on Martin Luther King Day once and how this is proof that BLACK RACISM IS THE REAL PROBLEM somehow[/sarcasm].
[sarcasm] Oh yes! Because we all know there is no such thing as black racism. mmmhmmmmm! [/sarcasm]

But its utterly ridiculous. People always use racism as an excuse because they are ignorant and can't verbally defend themselves. "Racism! He's a racist!" they always say. But I guarantee if an ethnicity other than white says something derogative to a white person, they are just being a jerk. Though if the white person says something back, its RACIST!

Aren't people who claim the majority of white people racist, racist themselves?

Why must we "hate" eachother? We all have two arms, legs, lungs, kidneys, and ears. We may look different, but we are all the same.
