Modern Warfare 2 and any Madden game.

Modern Warfare 2 was just one major shit storm. Between the horrid amount of people modding online, the horrid amount of exploitable glitches and the sheer amount actual in game mechanics being exploited by players that ruined the fundamentals of the game set in place by Call of Duty 4 which I highly regard as the pinnacle of online first person shooters centered on "realism." I don't really feel like going into specifics since this has been brought up countless time, well, everywhere.

Madden is a terrible series. The games have little to no new features, and the only real difference between games is the updated rosters. Graphics from 10 to 11 have not changed, the create-a-whatever hasn't changed, the franchise modes haven't changed. The only changes made I can literally count on my right hand. Updated Rosters, added 1 more player to online co-op, and since that means they have 3 on 3, now for next year they can say by having 4 on 4 matches they added a new feature and can make people shell out another $60 for an incomplete game.

Modern Warfare 2 just didn't click with me. Everything was just sort of boring. Most of the perks are useless when compared to things like stopping power. And the campaign was just a giant mess. The entire thing felt like they were just sticking you in locations across the world to distract you from how boring it was.

Red Dead Redemption...
?? why do you say such things?
(speaking through vault intercom)

It just felt so... barren. The story was great, but Rockstar just doesn't get the point of a sandbox game. The game just became a routine of taking extremely long horse rides from one point to another just to get into yet another gunfight. And lots of shooting (and only shooting) would be fine if it wasn't a sandbox game.
But you have to understand that is what the old west was like(and in some places still is) You wouldn't see people everywhere. Just vistas and the occasional animals.
Then I recommend one of these two options:
1. Ditch realism, in sandbox games it can just be irritating.
2. Don't set a sandbox game in a time period with absolutely nothing to do except shoot people.
it was a dangerous time to live in, if you didnt die due to disease then it was due to a bullet
Dying Slowly of Disease Due to Poor Work Conditions, Unless You Happened to Get Into a Hollywood Style Gunfight That in Reality Rarely Happened in the Old West and Only Happened if You Were an Outlaw or Lawmen, Which Pretty Much Also Guaranteed Early Death: The Game. Basically what I'm trying to say is that achieving true "realism" is a waste of goal, as it will just end up being the most boring thing you will ever play.

Advance Wars 2 (Gameboy Advance). This really doesn't deserve worst sequel ever, as it WAS a good game, it just didn't do enough in my opinion to advance upon its predecessor to qualify it as a legitimate sequel. It was more like an expansion pack, although those don't exist on the GBA.

To tell the truth, I don't have many games that are sequels that I was disappointed with. Some of my favorite games are sequels to games I've never played, lol.
I had 2 and Duel Strike. Still have 2. I think my dog ATE my duel Strike for the DS =( I do have Days of Ruin and I have to say that that is the best ORIGINAL War game I have ever played.

OT: Bioshock 2 doesnt really have anything to do with the first and just throws random shit in there like OMFG YOU GET TO BE A BIG DADDY NOW 1337 HAX!!! even though your not really all that strong.

I may get slapped for this but....

Everything after (and some stuff before) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. FOR A MOVIE TIE-IN, it was actually reeeeeally good on the DS and PS2, which is unheard of. I loved it, which made me buy the next game. Which I DESPISED!!!!!! It went from creative RPG and interpreted spell casty, character-switchy fun to ripped-from-movie-copy-paste slog. I was so disappointed.
I believe it was Chamber of Secrets that had an open-world sandbox Hogwarts, where you had to attend classes but could explore if you wanted to? Because I loved that game. I've seen trailers for the new ones and they look like Gears of Harry Potter.

I'd have to say Perfect Dark Zero, despite having only played the demo for 5 minutes. First of all, the game really should have been made for the Gamecube. Second, it didn't even have much of the original team. Third, the game supposedly sucked. It should have been the best FPS of all time, since it was supposed to be better than Perfect Dark. Right? Oh, and the art style... From pushing the limits on graphics to cartoon? Gee...

At least we had Timesplitters 2, and eventually the better one, Timesplitters: Future Perfect.

I say Halo 2, but Im a Halo CE purist who feels that the addition of online ruined Halo. Though I am liking Reach, but meh. I would say Halo 3, since i hate it more than 2, but Halo 3 is kinda 2's fault.

This thread is the worst sequel to the worst sequel to the worst sequel and so forth and so on until the original "worst sequel" thread.

But I would have to say that I really didn't care for the Half Life 2 episodes. HL2 was good, but the episodes were just... meh.

I just thought it was to similar to the first game. Most of the same glitches were still in the game. I HATED Kreia. I also thought the story was worse then the first. Though KotOR 2 did have better combat (With all the different styles) and I liked the force powers better in KotOR 2.

Shadow the Hedgehog. By now, I hope my hatred for this game is apparent. Heroes was an ok game, good even. This... there is no escape from being bad. Yes, Sonic 06 blew the series' brains out, but Shadow shot both kneecaps first.

I guess that's all fair enough. I gotta say both the stories were great, but I think I preferred 2's story line - again maybe because i played them out of order.

But I thought Obsidian did a good job on Neverwinter Nights 2

I never got to play Neverwinter Nights 2. I always wanted to but just never had the time and now I don't have it anymore.

I don't think that's fair. It was a positively great first half of game. If only the second half had come out...

Anyways, let's go down my list:
Tales of Symphonia 2: Name I Don't Even Care to Remember.
-Take a game that was amazingly good, with a story that wrapped up nicely and try to add onto that with retcons in the form of ancient forces that you didn't notice when you were going around in the first game interacting with forces that controlled the very fabric of reality, yet these new forces were just behind them. Also have a pokemon style gameplay to compensate for the lack of creativity that resulted in only 2 new party characters, with the main hero being a whiny little ***** and the heroine having a George Lucas romance with the hero.

Megaman Zero 4
-It's easy to tell the series had been almost completely mined of ideas by this point. The new stuff here felt like more of the same, and the story was barely worth mentioning. Sure, character designs were still interesting, but it also sacrificed the appearance of old characters (most noteable were the Four...er Three Guardians and most of the resistance. Plus, the villain was the same as the third game's despite the fact that up until this point we'd had a new villain appear in each of the series. Zero also got no more development in this one. The only really good thing I can say is that it provided definite closure to the series.

FFXIII
-Final Fantasy always earns a lot of harsh critisism, most of it undeserved, though I've for the most part loved the series. 13, however, I had to force myself to play through. Even 12, which I have voiced my hatred for, still felt like a Final Fantasy game, even if it was only barely. 13, I had to constantly remind myself that it was Final Fantasy and not just some bizarre JRPG that had somehow gotten mixed up with the real FF13. I'm not really going to go into much detail here, but I'll just say that while it had some good parts, it took way too long to finally hit the core of the game, and progressing was like constantly climbing a set of tall walls rather than a flowing path.

Halo 2
-Most of you already know the reasons here. I don't feel the need to go further on. I will say that my brother and I attempted a Halo marathon (only series we could agree to coop on), only to end up both wondering if we should skip to 3 after we had gone so far into it.

Jak X
-This was a clear attempt to try and cash in on the success of Jak and of racing tie-ins, though it was at least a generation outdated when it came out (Crash Racing, one of the last few NON-MARIO KART racing tie-ins, was fun because it was back when there was no real online for console games, so having some sort of "party" game was important when it was time to play with friends.)

Almost any sports game that comes out yearly
-Look, it wouldn't be nearly as bad if you couldn't just do the same thing but as an expansion pack, and maybe get a new game every 3-4 years instead. However, as a sequel, it adds nothing you don't already have ("WAH! CHARACTER ROSTERS! WAH!" Please shut up. Those could easily be accomplished via DLC, and since you already play online, I'm betting, and you're willing to buy every addition, there's no reason why you couldn't get them this way). I don't have anything against games coming out yearly (as BlazBlue has proven it can be done right), but these are constantly more like tweaks than new games. What I expect from a sequel (and these aren't that unreasonable): New story (a new league, only different from the previous game because of stats of almost indistinguishable characters, doesn't count), tweaks from the previous game, be they large or small (this is where they succeed partially at. Though they are mostly micromanaging tweaks since they've more than likely worked a lot of the bugs out of the engine by now), and possibly a change in scenery, characters, gameplay, and/or experience.

Ah well, if you get the chance it's defs worth checking out. Though it kinda ruins it when you get to the last big boss fight, and due to a glitch the boss doesn't show up, and you're just wondering around the arena as the realisation that you have to start all the way back from your last save, which was ages ago, slowly dawns on you. FML.

Anyway, moral of the story is, if you get the game, PATCH IT.

Resistance 2. Not the worst game by far , but such a disappointing follow up to perhaps one of the coolest shooters ever. Resistance was just so much fun, and everything just worked. I've always seen it as a refined Halo for PS3. The sequel was just another average grey shooter, with none of the atmosphere and WOW of the first game.
