Also in Silent Hill 2, along with the previously mentionned static, would be the point where you entered a huge dark hall. The only thing in it is a gallows right in the middle but every-so-often you hear what sounds like a bull charging right at you, but there's nothing there!

Most of the sounds in Silent Hill....any of the series.....I've started making a game of "I hear you, you fucker where the hell are you so I can beat you to death with my board?" and I actually scream it at the tv.....

Oblivion- the incessant spoutings of "Well met", with the guards having to say "STOP! You've violated the law!"

I mean, throw in some interesting dialogue now and again, Bethesda. But I do admit they took me off guard when a high elf asked me what the fee was for necrophilia, 2nd offense.
They did do a better job with Fallout 3 though.

For me, it would have to be the noise of a critical hit landing on you in Team Fortress Two. Especially when said critical is caused by a spy.

Almost forgot: the "click of death" in CSS or almost any shooter. It can end funny though. Me vs a terrorist, both shot our guns empty on eachother, both shot our pistols empty on eachother, and we still barely hit eachother. Then we just knifed, can't remember who won.

Any shooting game where bullets hitting terrain makes a noise and all you hear is *Tap tap tap tap tap tap tap thud thud thud thud..* and you hit the deck..
