When I had to submit an essay online, the power went out just as I was about to click submit. My teacher said I never turned it in and gave me zero as her first reaction. Took me two weeks to rectify this situation.
That is actually what kind of happened with my story in my original post. Only the teacher knew of the outage, and the system that we took the test on was saying that since we had taken it we couldn't retake it. Took a couple of days to fix it.

Anytime doing a ROM Nuzlocke run.

Feels almost like cheating, especially when a Pokemon has died.

You look into it's eyes. You see the future. You cannot change it. You HAVE to facilitate it.

It was a few days ago. I was sick and just decided to waste the day away playing Final Fantasy 9. I went 8 hours without saving when the power went out, but it only went out for a few seconds. 8 hours of hardwork gone....ALL GONE! Needless to say I was saddened, and just got some rest for the rest of the day.

for me it was way back when GTA:SA came out on PS2. i had been playing from the last missions in los santos to completing the whole of the map after arriving in the last city(forgot it's name) and was about 8 hours in and hadn't saved at all. i was just about to get tot the final mission in that area when the power went out. i didn't break anything, but i refused to play the game for about a week before trying again.

Years ago, there was a blackout that wiped out most of the power here in Ontario as well as the eastern US and many other places. I'm sure some of you will remember.

This just happened to coincide with my last night of my Wind Waker rental (this was before blockbuster got rid of late charges here). I think I had just gotten the Master Sword to full strength and was about to finish up some side quests and tackle the final dungeon. That didn't happen that night.

I remember that actually, and I was about to post something about that very power outage.
I was in the shower at the time. Ever tried to turn off the shower, get out of it, grab a towel, and open the door so you can see (it was around 1-3 PM), all without any light at all? Hard. Very hard.

Saving my Pokemon Yellow game with the gameboy plugged instead of having batteries.

I was so angry losing everything I had worked for three years for that I quit Pokemon for about 4 months.

[sub]I've never ragequit Pokemon like that since.[/sub]

I remember hearing about that from my cousins back east. Was it really that bad?

I've had a worse one. A 3.11gb game was 98.7% downloaded and my internet died.
I'm on capped bandwidth.

When I was seventeen, and heavily into fiction writing and corrosponding with fellow writers, I had spent nine hours straight typing a letter and outline for a couple of stories, and was preparing to send it to my friend in Ohio. Just as I reached for the 'Print' button, there was an outage. I screamed so loud, I was heard by my friends, whose houses were around 700 feet from my own.

Did I mention this was a letter around twenty-eight pages long? When I went to retype as much as I could remember, I only ended up with seventeen pages of material. I was pissed beyond belief.

Was playing DotA, having a really bad game (something like 2:9 Kill/Death ratio). Power went out and I was sure that it looked like I'd quit. Fortunately it was a city-wide powercut so several other people had dropped at the same time...

Youch. That one truly does suck. Time to get a download manager to handle that for you?

I had a blackout as I was saving my freshly achieved 100% save file on GTA San Andreas causing the save file to corrupt. On a completely unrelated note my PS2 controller ended up being destroyed somehow during the blackout.

During a Multimedia exam we had a blackout and couldn't use any of the computers which had the exam on them.

I haven't had too many power outages at unfortunate times, but one unfortunate time was a while back at my old house... I was playing Twilight Princess (Zelda) and haven't saved for a few hours, got through a temple or two and finished a side quest. I was pausing to pull out a weapon so I could finish up some things before finally saving and... *click* Power goes out.

And that was that time I punched a hole in my bedroom wall. OH GOD WHY IS MY HAND BLEEDING

I feel as if i can answer this the most accurately, since this happened to me, about 20 minutes ago.

For me, the most frustrating time to have a power outage is when you spent an hour on Minecraft, putting the finishing touches on your new fortress, having not saved the game and then, black goes the computer screen.

Now there are patches of red liquid on my wall in my living room (real life living room, that is), while having no idea how they got there. :p

Playing Saints row 2 for about 5 hours and was enjoying it thoroughly only for the screen to go black and then realize that i hadn't saved and that there was little to no auto save..........FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Mid strike while killing a boss in FFX. And the worst part was that it was a fluke victory, because my pre-teen ass had skipped all the little battles and my guys were woefully understrength.

Shoe-eatingly infuriating!!!!!!

I live up in Fresno. (Also known as HELL.) We actually have people drop dead from the heat when the power goes off >.>
Ive been there! Only for a few hours...it was the middle of winter so it wasnt exactly hell.

What was hell was when asking for directions to the nearest WALMART the guy gave us directions to three of them in Fresno...but told us not to go to the 1st two cos they werent the closest...then he proceeded to talk non-stop about how great Fresno is (we were only passing through really) and then talk about how different our accents were (I'm Australian btw)

We had a huge wind storm a couple of years ago. Well about 2 hours before the wind picked up, I began playing through episode 2 of Phantasy Star Online, preparing to begin my crawl through the Sea Lab on Hard. So I gained about 5 or 6 levels, picked up a ton of loot, and died about ten times, but eventually I managed to get to the boss. Finished the fight down the elevator and was pretty dang close to finishing Olga Flow off until... nothing. The screen went black, the room started to get really warm, and I was about ready to scream.

For those of you unfamiliar with PSO, saving requires quitting, and quitting during a dungeon resets your progress within that dungeon.
