Give them Heavy Rain and tell them it's a fun, happy game with absolutely NO child death or finger dismemberment.
Ah, but Heavy Rain has that trademark hilariously awful voice acting syndrome.

Oh my...wow. You would think that the voice-acting would be the one thing a developer does right in a story-driven game...

Any game really.

Just berate them constantly, explain how they missed little tidbits, and occasionally take over for them to "show them how it's done".

Fox News I guess, that's a good (bad) start.

...Or if you're looking for some direct game stuff

Pathologic. There are so many different things wrong with this game as an introduction, I don't even know where to begin.

Dwarf Fortress. I fail to see how any game could be harder for a new player to understand and enjoy. I hope for their sake that they agree with the game's motto: "Losing is Fun!"
don't tell them about the tile packs for extra !!science!!.

I've never played with any tileset other than default ASCII, and I've played quite a bit of DF. I don't find the ASCII bad, you just have to learn what every character means. That would be the hard bit to get used to as a new games (or as anyone at all)
For extra fun disable the menu with the key functions on it, and try to get them to play without it by repeatedly guessing!

Let them play any Valve made multiplayer game. I seem to find a lot of elitists on them..

probably Rpg's.

non-gamers arn't used to a medium that doesn't tell them where to go, Rpgs will frighten them.

The original Everquest. No patches or anything, just right out of the box with the whole death penalty starting at level 5, losing your corpse and grinding like a son of a ***** for something only marginally better than your newbie tunic.

This. Introduce them to the Xbox Live FPS community. The vocal ones, at least. That should put them right off.

I know there are universally nasty games like Superman 64 or E.T for the Atari 2600...

But to me, personally, the worst way to introduce someone to gaming is having would-be gamers play F-Zero GX.

1v1 in Halo Reach and they have never played a shooter. Also, get the sniper whenever, and tea-bag as often as possible. Congratulations. You have just scared someone away from gaming and crowned yourself as King Dick.
