Hunting Rifle in Left 4 Dead.
Absolutely useless on anything other than long range opponents, which you don't get in Left 4 Dead! You might as well just use your pistols. The one game where the unlimited ammo sidearm has a function. Heheh
To add insult to injury, it's always found next to the Assault Rifle and Combat Shotgun. Who can look at that selection and pick it!?
I have tried using the hunting rifle and don't know why it's in that game, other than maybe atmosphere. It's a first person shooter whose enemies attack by rushing you in large numbers, sniping's not gonna help you there.
*raises hand* 8D
considering it can kill plain zombies in one hit, has a decent rate of fire, and reloads with a magazine I can't say it has a weakness. I guess I'm the only one who thinks that way, but at least it has more ammo capacity than the shotgun and reloads faster.

Anyway, I'm gonna say the knife from Silent Hill 3. Until you find the pipe you might as well run away from everything you see.

Smoke grenades on any game. Especially the Gears of War series.
The first Gears of War's smoke grenade, definitely. The second one's could at least stun a person.

My pick has to be the fishing pole in WoW. You might as well fight unarmed.
Smoke grenades actually saved my butt on a multiplayer map in Gears of War 2 when my friend was chasing me

Any pistol that has infinite ammo. For some reason, developers decide to give a people a gun with infinite ammo so they could have something to fall back on, but then made it suck ass to make the infinite ammo warranted. If you're going to give a person a secondary weapon, make it have infinite ammo if you want, but don't make it take 20 shots to kill someone.
Play Tomb Raider: Legend. I played through it on hard using only pistols, if you do the slow motion moves, it takes maybe four shots to kill any enemy.

As for the truly worst weapon: probably Uzis in any Tomb Raider game. I never find enough ammo to render them worthwhile.

The very last gun that you unlock in COD4 is just bullshit pure and simple.
ya that was a letdown...all that work just to end up with the worst gun...o and the double barreled shotgun from fallout 3...only did its full damage when the enemy was right next to you which kinda destroys the purpose of a gun

the one shot plasma pistol in deus ex
It wasn't the most useless gun (I'm going to throw my vote in for the .32 cal pistol in Fallout 3. It used the same skill as the hunting rifle and the same ammo but did laughable damage. Seriously you could do more damage trying to feed it to someone), but it was close. It had staggering power and used the handgun skill. The catch was, the round took awhile to get to the target, you only had one shot and there were only a handfull of them in the entire game (I can recall finding 3 total). I still carried them around on one playthrough where I only used a handgun and grenades though. When the situation got really desperate, it was nice having that one shot melt just about anything gun.

The Needler from the Halo series. It falls into the very small category of weapons marked: "Really cool in theory; totally useless in practice".
I never understood this. Why did everybody find the needler to be useless? I loved it. Yeah it's piss weak if you only shoot a few needles but if you pump a good amount into one target they explode. It's great against elites, plus you can easily find more ammo amongst the many grunt corpses.
My thoughts exactly, I really kick butt with the Needler even in multiplayer.

OT: I'm going to go with the beginning pistol in Crackdown. Really, you can't kill anything with that.

Nemesis in Cave Story. The more you level it up, the weaker it gets. At max level it shoots rubber ducks and does one damage.

My decision is the wrench in Half Life Opposing Force
Trying to recreate the crowbar! shame on you valve! adding choice into the game was the only thing the wrench did, it made you think "do i go with the fast and strong knife or do i go with the slow wrench"
Being fair, Gearbox made the expansions to HL1, not Valve.

The Flamer from Dead Space, Love the game, hate the weapon.
Agreed. How in god's name do you make a Flame Thrower that bad in a zombie game?

Actually, a smash attack with it will break a shield.

I would have to go with any FO3 pistol that isn't the silenced 10mm, as well as the 10mm SMG. The pistol did more damage and used the same ammo, but less!

Maybe the magnum in Halo 2 and 3. That gun was amazing in Halo: Combat Evolved. Hunter down in 3-5 shots.

I do not know if it can be considered a weapon but: Snake's Cigs.
Also, the thing in Unreal Tournament that causes a nuclear explosion.
Another addition: Goldeen from SSBB.
And another: the Giant's Knife in Ocarina Of Time.

Hunting Rifle in Left 4 Dead.
I main Hunting Rifle. It chews Special Infected up something tragic. I get a lot of Smokers ragequitting in Vs. :3
It's great for hordes, too, since the bullets travel until they hit an object - a few bullets can empty a hallway. A lot of people don't see the utility of the Hunting Rifle until they're in a team with someone who has been using it a while, but it's pretty much essential to have at least one Hunting Rifle player in Expert Campaign or against an Infected Vs. team who knows what they're doing.

Anywho...

Death in any FF game, though Doom is quite delicious.
Flamethrower in the first Red Faction, and many other games. The Flamer in Fallout 3 is a BIG exception.
Sniper Rifles in Mass Effect.
LMGs in Rainbow Six: Vegas, unless you're playing Attack and Defend and you have your bag sitting in a hallway or something.
Boltok in Gears of War multiplayer. It's great for killing Wretches in the Single Player, though.
Overlord in XGRA. You'll never hit anything with it, and it doesn't instant-kill. Made worse by the fact that one more powerup item will get you the SINN Deathstrike, which never misses and will instantly wreck AI opponents.

Oh, how about the Tanegashima in MGS4, especially during Old Sun. You can't hit anything more than a few feet ahead of you (unless you're surrounded), it only has one round, and it's only (somewhat) useful outdoors. It takes about thirty seconds to a minute just to reload and you can't move while you're doing so, and the damage of the round itself isn't anything special (don't count on a headshot).

Also, cigarettes don't count as weapons.

I agree,if used correctly, that bad boy can empty a hallway in a couple seconds.
I still much rather use my trusty m16 though.Fifty rounds in a magazine and the ability to take heads off at long range is priceless.

On topic:
Off the top of my head(and to diversify a bit),the Chem-Thrower from command and conquer renegade.
It's basically a flamethrower that fires greenish gas at people. It's deadly, but ammo is scarse and if you kill someone with it,he has a small percent chance to turn into a mutated blob that can take alot of damage,is immune to the chem-thrower and is surprisingly fast.

It's WAY better to just use the far superior flamethrower.Alot of ammo and the only side effect to the enemy is a severe case of death.

the magnum from halo 3 was crap. the one from halo 2 was better because it was semi-automatic and fired at whatever rate you wanted it to. i miss being able to dual-wield them and empty 2 clips in under 2 seconds. the one in halo 3 only had one firing speed, which slows down gunfights a lot

The Shurikens & Lightning gun from Painkiller. Yeah, it's awesome as an idea, but the default Painkiller is more effective.

The crowbar from half-life 2.

I'm up against an entire race of super-advanced hostile aliens, and this is all I get?

Ah, well. The gravity gun more than makes up for it later, though.
