Sure why not? If they can make one about Halo I don't see whats so hard. Also, while they're at it they should make a Gears of War RTS aswell.

Why not?

They turned it from a RPG (ME1) into a gears of war clone (ME2).

Might as well make it a RTS and call it a day

It would work about as well as a Halo RTS.

Which is to say, not at all.

Halo Wars was terrible. It would be like a proper RTS.
Sure it would. Because Halo Wars was intended to be shit right from the beginning, that's why it didn't work, amirite?
Well when I played, it didn't feel like a RTS when compared to the others I had played, I'm sure they tried as best they could but it just felt like to me it didn't work within the confines of the Halo Universe. Same could go for my idea I guess. I dunno.
(emphasis mine)

This is exactly the reason I don't believe it'll work for Mass Effect. That's why I made the comparison in the first place.

Sounds like a great franchise milking idea. But, like we've already seen, it wouldn't work.

Just to be genuine and not a cynical dick: Yes it could work, but it would be very difficult to pull off. But there is the potential there for something that could be very cool.

Maybe this is kind of silly, but I'd like to see an FPS spinoff game (possibly developed by a different company) where you play an alliance soldier in the Skyllian Blitz, first defending the colony, and later participating in the assault on Torfan. That could be awesome.

Allow me to import my own opinion about this matter:
No no no no no no Hmmm NO no no no nadda no no no no and fucking NO.
Why would the Asari be fighting Salarians? Also you couldn't have Quarians, which many people would be pissed about, because then there would be a crapload of managing sickness and suit repair in order to fight. So no. A ME RTS would never work in the history of forever.

It could work with Biowares stellar writers.
They have stellar writers? They should probably have them work on their RPGs first to be honest.

Yeah I guess the story wouldn't really allow for it =/
Yes it would. The battle of Virimie would make a sweet RTS battle. Or you could go back in time when the Krogans and Arachni and Saurians where all fighting each other.

When I see comments like this, I really just have to ask...what in the hell qualifies as GOOD writing for you?

OT: Mass Effect would never work as an RTS but I can see it plausibly working as an expanded multiplayer game.

I am going to give my two cents, despite the fact I haven't played ME1 or ME2.
From what I've heard it could go ME have a deep story. But does it need to be about Sheperd and the Normandie? It could take place before or after the start of the storyline. But I haven't played them so what do I know.

It would be interesting if they could pull it off. Hmmm maybe a hybrid like brutal legend? Maybe they could insert a small rts segment in a later game? But overall I don't think a full blown rts would work which is a shame.

Yes.
Indeed! What of the sideways choice. You can always sit on the fence sideways, yes?

Everything has the chance to work if given the right catalyst. Some ideas just stand out more than others.

it'd be generic, Sins of a Solar Empire plus actual land invasions. Nothing more to add really. Just names of things and factions would change.

I havent played the games.

I guess it would be Sins but with a real story that you go through and the ME logo plastered over it.

Within gaming? Troika/Black Isle.

I would buy it if it was on the xbox and I couldimport my shepard as a comander of an army. It would be amazing if you could then control a soldier.
So then you'd end up as a dry RPG with RTS elements... Brutal Legend in Space?

Hmmm..I don't think that the Mass Effect universe, as is, has much that would translate well into a standard RTS. I suppose you could do the Rachni (sp?) Wars, or perhaps some Krogan clan warfare of some sort. Though, neither of those ideas seem like something that would fill out a 'full' title.

A RTT game similar to X-Com, Fallout Tactics, Jagged Alliance, or Commandos might work though. The storyline could follow a separate Spectre (again, sp?) team as it tackles missions across the galaxy, pre-ME1 storyline.

You could also argue for an RTS similar to the Homeworld series style of gameplay. There's plenty going on warship-wise, and historical/background conflicts, to support this style of game as well. The Quarian migrant fleet vs. the Geth, First contact war, Krogan wars, etc...
