It would put a new light onto a somewhat tired genre. I mean, doing it just for the controversy would be fucking stupid and pointless, but if they did it for emotional impact - some forget that the soldiers serving under Hitler's regime were, in fact, also people with families and friends - then it would serve a greater purpose.

Although there are also already a few official Company of Heroes campaigns where you play as (well, control) the German side.

I wouldn't buy a CoD game just because I could play as a nazi and I'd rather play as a normal german soldier rather then a full-scaled nazi.

Don't know what else to say. If the gameplay looks good and the campaign is long enough for the price, yeah I would buy it, nazis or not.
every german soldier was a full blown Nazi, every citizen of germany was a full blown Nazi, there's nothing wrong with Nazis, its the same as saying 'would you play the next call of duty as a democrat?'. it was just the political party of the time, and everyone had to go along with it, some were worse than others, but just because they were Nazis doesn't make them bad people, there were soldiers on both sides.
Uhm, no, everyone was not a nazi. Everyone was not an anti-semist and a racsist. My grandma and her family for one beg the differ. You're not part of something just because you roll with it, just because Sweden is currently being lead by (supposedly) liberal conservatists, that doesn't mean that everyone in Sweden is a liberal conservatist. Nor does our democracy mean that everyone in Sweden is a democrat.

Edit: Kind of missed out on the soldier part, hah, but there were plenty of people that only wanted to fight for their homeland or were simply force-conscripted.
yes, your grandma was a Nazi, it's not meant in a bad way, it's just history. never said she was an anti-semite or a racist in anyway, just because a small group was, doesn't mean they all were.

the only problem with your Sweden remark is that during that time there was only one party: the Nazis, so all Germans were part of that party.
Wrong; not everyone was a member of the NSDAP. For some professions, you had to be a member, like being a teacher. The majority of the German people wasn't a member of the NSDAP. At the height of it's power, the party had 8,5 million members, which was nowhere close to the total population of Germany.

not if it's all the game has to offer.
If it's good, I'd buy it. Nazis or not. But it WOULD be quite refreshing.

i don't play call of duty games, but i might if they only play the WINNING battle of the Nazis. none of those 'supposed to lose' things. but yeah, i could imagine a bonus mode similar to Nazi Zombies, where you are in a concentration camp, and it's Nazi Jews :D oh the controversy!!!!

Maybe 8.5 who truly registered and believed, but everyone was a Nazi, it was Nazi Germany not Nazy And Steve And Bill Who Like Cupcakes Instead Germany. i wonder what would have happened to the first person who said "I'm not a Nazi, I'm a democrat".

no one said they weren't Nazis...

I've been wanting a WWII game where you play as Nazis for a long time. I by no means supported the real Nazis, but boy do I want to try my hand at supporting the virtual ones.

Being part German, I'd find some weird way to be proud of it.

Which worries me.

Altogether, it's probably a bad/gppd iddea.

I think I'm drunkp.

depends on how they define the character, if when he is taken to the prisoner and goes "ZEIG HAIL MY GUN FOR THE FATHERLAND"and shoots the prisoner then no, if he is an average german solider who is fighting for the fatherland and not for hitler then yes. I think it could be cool like the first half of the game you play as the nazi then during the battle there is a supposed to lose fight and like there is a tracking shoot of a bullet and it nails your character in the head and you switch to british/american/canadian character. on the other subject I want a good french resistance game.

I'd give it a go, it actually sounds fun, depending on what I'm doing (I don't want to spend 1 hour walking around a camp watching jews get gassed)

I can see how people would be upset. I am quite a bit German myself, but I still understand why people would complain. However, COD is COD, so I would buy it eventually I suppose.

the fuck? if i fight for the nazis then i am a nazi. german soldiers were fighting for hitler, who was a nazi. no matter what the soldeirs actual intentions were, they fought for hitler, and against the jewish people, so they are a nazi
so your saying that every american soldier now is a black democrate becouse the president is a black democrate? or are they republicans that choke on pretzels like the president that send them to war?

sorry dude but your just a ...

back to topic, if it is a good game and not some political bull... yes i would give it a try
i beleive that everyone is defined by what they do, and what they enforce. even if alot of the nazi soldiers were all good people that were scared into fighting for hitler, they are still nazis. every american soldier who had, until recently occupied a country for no reason represented the souless greedy republicans who didnt care for young lives as long as they were paid. im not talking from our viewpoint but from the viewpoint of the jewish family who was torn from their home and taken to a concentration camp by a couple of german soldiers. the viewpoint of the Iraqi mother whos son was killed in a suicide bomb.
