Would you buy a Call of Duty game if you got to play as a Nazi?

Sure, if it was done well (and not being a guard in a concentration camp as you suggested). There were plenty of units which fought on all the German fronts, so a campaign could be the war from the eyes of a Wehrmacht soldier in a unit who sees combat from Poland to the Bulge. Maybe do it a bit like MW and let you play 2 characters, one infantry and one armored.

The whole "being a Nazi" thing isn't extremely controversy worthy. You're taking the reigns of ze germans in any number of game's multi player modes anyway. But the concentration camp thing? That's a bit much.

Perhaps not the concentration camps but at least a campaign as a German soldier seeing Gestapo and mistreated civilians etc. I would love to see a game from the Nazis point of view where everyone else other than the Germans are made out to be the bad guys.

You play as the Germans in Company of Heroes.

Hell, I think they would get away with it if the FPS was based around Rommel's Legendary Ghost Division.

Mainly because Rommel was the most honest General in the entire German Army, and was the only German General to commit No War Crimes during the entirety of the war, even going against Hitler's law of Killing British Commandos. Rommel also treated all his prisoners with respect and honour, treating them correctly.

That would actually be a pretty fun idea. Go through Nazi soldiers at key battles...even if the character dies, the player would be 'spirited into' another one for another battle. And, yes, I have to admit, the controversy would be fun to watch. It just feels like, for once, I'd like to be the one holed up in the gigantic fortifications on Omaha Beach, watching and waiting for the small infantry ships to drift within weapon range.....brrrrr. I mean, we all know how that fight ends, but damn it all if that wouldn't be a badass idea!

Honestly, it's CoD, I couldn't care less who I'm playing, whether it's the Nazis, or the Imperial Japanese raping the Chinese, or us British raping some of our colonies, or the USAmericans raping some natives, couldn't care less. It's CoD, I'd buy it.

"Have SOME missions playing as a nazi"? How about you're playing as some random soldier, incredibly heroic and all that, helping your friends for a just cause. Then, a few levels in, it is suddenly revealed to the player that you are all, in fact, nazis obeying the orders from some kind of Hitler-clone who, despite hating jews, isn't that bad a person. In fact, he might even be a nice guy.

THAT'S what I call controversy.

Yeah, because playing a WWII game where you're in the team that kills millions of innocent people would not be absolutely disgusting at all.

Not only would there be a gigantic controversy, but there's a reason the only purpose Germans serve in video games is to get shot. Reading up on German war crimes is already insanely depressing, I don't think we need it visualized.

ANYWAY, I posted in a thread like this last year. If it has a good campaign, it would sell like hot cakes. No COD, or MOH, something completely different. A type of FPS that has never been played....

You know, we have many games with Alternate Universe stories where the USSR won the cold war. We can't we have the same with Nazi Germany? After all, were not the USSR and Nazi Germany were friendly too each other until Hitler pre-emptively invaded? What if Hitler just focused on finishing his Middle-eastern campaign and had bigger defenses on Normandy, leaving the USSR for another time...? Hell, what if the Germans built a nuke first?

You can play as Joseph Stalin and Mao Zu Doung in Civilization, and both of those two make Hitler look like a gentle boy scout. Why not go all the way in put in modern history's most controversial character?

The new Facebook game Auschwitz-ville. I could just imagine getting those little spam pop-ups. *friends name here* has found some extra Zyklon-B and they're sharing. I'm putting way too much thought into this.

Anyways as an FPS the best you could expect would probably be by someone fairly obscure. I'd buy it just because it sounds intriguing. Just don't expect a Call of Duty to make THAT maneuver. Maybe something by RWS.

I wouldn't buy a CoD game just because I could play as a nazi and I'd rather play as a normal german soldier rather then a full-scaled nazi.

Don't know what else to say. If the gameplay looks good and the campaign is long enough for the price, yeah I would buy it, nazis or not.

Call of Duty for the campaign what? That isn't real.
