Generally people do: I bought a PS3 for the Last of Us, a Vita for Persona 4: Golden and pretty much every Nintendo handheld purchase has been motivated by Pokemon. With the exception of the GBA, I ended up collecting a solid library of games around the ones I wanted.

Does not happen very often with me I got a SNES for the Super Mario All Stars collection because I never had a NES and did not regret that at all. I also bought a Dreamcast just for Soul Calibur (the greatest 3D fighting game ever made) and did not regret that either but that was at the end of its life so got the game and controllers for about 40 pounds but if I knew SC was that awesome I would have bought the console on release for that game.

Usually though I have a 2 essential game policy before I buy a console unless I see an excellent deal somewhere and was almost certainly going to get the console at some point like with the PS4 which has zero games I want atm but I did get Destiny to play with friends online which is a blast seeing as we havent had an online game in years we all played (different tastes in games).

.......No....*Pushes PS2 and copy of Persona 4 under couch*

...What do you want from me? A friend showed me the game and I really liked it.

Would I buy a console for the price of one game?

Yes, I'll trade my copy of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West for 1 PS4, thank you.

And, maybe Max Payne 3 for a PS3.

I bought a Playstation 3 for God Of War 3, and I didn't even have a PS2, I played God of War 3 at a friend's and went "okay, this game needs to be in my house."
Of course I checked out the other Sony exclusives and I've since become a big fan of Uncharted, Resistance, and Infamous but at the time, just God Of War, baby.
And I'm about to do that same thing for Alien: Isolation with a PS4.
Yeah, I know it's on current gen consoles but with Infamous: Second Son already out and Uncharted and Mortal Kombat looming on the horizon, I think it's about time.

I wouldn't, unless you could get it pretty cheap. Of course, if you're looking between buying a PS4/Xbox one/PC, then I would of course suggest the one that has the exclusives you want (or PC if no exclusives appeal to you), but I don't think it's worth purchasing an extra system for just one exclusive title.

Yep. I'll be buying a PS4 for the next Dead or Alive, whenever that sashays along tits a-swinging and asses a-jiggling.

I've done it before honestly...the last few Nintendo Handhelds I got were specifically bought for Pokemon (until I found out about the other great games they had of course). I also got the Wii U for some sweet Nintendo exclusives but that isn't so much 'one game' as, 'games from one specific set of developers'.

That game would have to literally be the greatest game ever made for me to spend about five to six hundred bones for it. Of course as long as we're going for newer systems. I'd gladly pay about sixty bucks to play Godzilla: Save the Earth on PS2 again.

Almost. I almost bought one to play RDR, but I tried to play GTAIV with a controller and it was horrible.

I would have gotten the Wii U just for Bayonetta 2, but then more games I wanted showed up, and the Wii U already had ZombiU as a launch title. So I suppose my answer is "yes, but context is everything". Oh Wii U, you will soon be mine, but B2 has an October EU release =/

Of course you buy a console knowing that there will probably be games you want later on.

It would depend on the consoles line up of games. I bought the 3DS for Pokemon Y but there are quite a few games I want to get for it anyway so I don't feel to bad about spending the money on it. Usually though I just stick with my pc, it has enough games on it anyway.

Most people who're into niche games are the ones that will buy a whole console for one game. I am one of those people but recent years My self control have matured a bit and can ignore some games I like.

The only game for me personally that I would buy a whole console for are persona series and metal gear.

I'm currently very conflicted over whether to get a PS3 on the cheap for Persona 5 or pay more on the chance there will be another console exclusive I'm interested in.

I'm going to guess OP means Destiny.

It sounds like a good game to me, and it's actually one i've been wanting, a Borderlands-like MMO without unwieldy garbage.

I'm definitely not going to buy the console for it though. PC all the way. If it really hits big and people do nothing but play this game as the GDP drops because of it, it'll get a port to PC or multiple quality copycats anyway.

Shooters with console controllers... please

Not usually no, I am however buying a Playstation TV specifically to play Persona 4: Golden on.
I won't hate myself too much for it because it's relatively cheap.

No. $560 for one game is just way to much. I can buy an expensive PC part for that. Actually I could buy a crappy car for that. As a general rule I dont consider the purchase of a console unless theres at least 10 games I want to play on it and have some good replayability. If it was around $100 yeah I could get behind that for a really good game but I dont think last generation consoles have fallen that far.

The NES, SNES, Playstation, playstation 2, PS Vita, and PC have enough games to justify the cost to me. The Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Xbox one do not yet have enough exclusives to justify the cost to me. Buyers remorse of the 360 and PS3 have left me even more careful about buying the new consoles. At this point I dont think Ill ever buy them, espeically with PC gaming on the rise again.
