This seems a bad idea.
Its you and 19 other people according to that article. You would go insane if all you saw for the rest of your life was the same 19 people. Also there is no way it would be a fresh start away from all of humanities divides because you would still be humans with all your personal baggage. On top of that, in the interest of fairness and balance, it would be the most diverse group possible. Therefore the 19 others would more than likely have nothing in common at all with you making being with them for the rest of your life even worse
I would. Because if its only 19 people you could see for years it would still be more fun then staying on earth. Its not how many people that you have that determins how much fun that you have its what you do with said people. I ve gone months on a small job site in the middle of bumfuck alaska where you only see 15 people for 3 month on end and you know what it was quite enjoyable, you had a freedom there that only few people get to experence, and you gain a true comradery over the experience. The chance for true freedom and the chance for the knowledge that you could acquire, it would be something that i could pass up. and also think about it more people would come with time so the most you could stay by yourself was 5-6 years. its sounds like a paradise already. Lets not forget playing god; to be able to reshape a world.

And no UN, if you going to make out on a new world than i dont want the fucking UN running it. Id rather have it be run be the scientists then pencil pushers.

Only if it is neccesary.

As in, these following situations occur:

Moon Blows Up
Global Warming is Going to Bite Humanity's Butt
Psychopaths rule the world
Asteroids are raining down
The Covenant find us
Area 51 is comprimised
U.S. Military shoots the bird to everyone else
Russian Military shoots the bird to everyone else
Chinese Military shoots the bird to everyone else
Kim Jong-il wants to play World Genocide
Taliban goes, "PEW PEW!" and takes over a nuclear silo
Ailen Dogs will reveal themselves and piss on everyones' grave.

to be one of the first to expand humanity extra terrestrially would be amazing, I sometimes wonder how earth would keep in regular contact with colonies, and the lag would be horrible if they ever managed interstellar internet, but I'd still do it. For glory, for humanity and most of all: FOR SCIENCE!

OT; I'd probably colonize it just for the sake of being able to have people go,
"That guy was a pioneer in space colonization, but he was also an git for thinking he could breathe on mars for longer then .000000000001 of a second."

Damn straight....think of the extreme sports....mars has cliff faces 20+ kilometers deep and canyons and volcanoes like NOTHING here. It could be a renaissance and a new civilization. I suppose it could also turn out as a martian dystopia, aka bioshock. Just as long as none of the equipment has "made in checkoslovakia" written on it, I'm in.

Would I walk upon another world?

Hell yes!

Imagine the adventure of being one of the first to live upon another planet. Oh sure, in teh future we'll be regarded as small fries but going to another planet... how could you not think that cool?

You'd have to be very, very, boring to not want to go to Mars. Or afraid of not returning, which I suppose I could understand.

Not sure.

On the one hand, no. I imagine Earth would be a lot quieter if everyone else went to mars, and I like it here, it's Earth after all, breathable atmosphere, lots of water. After all we did evolve to live here.

On the other hand, hell yeah, mars, YEAH AWeSOME!
MARS!
