Would you consider yourself de-sensitized?

Sure, to fake violence. But I still get grossed out when I see the real thing(example: "Offended page of Encyclopedia Dramatica. Don't look it up. Seriously. It is NOT worth it.). I think you can always tell the difference between real/fake gore.

Congratulations, you laughed at suicide victims. Hope you feel good about yourself.
Your the kind of person who doesn't need to be in this world.

OT: I consider myself aware. I can tell when its appropriate and when its not appropriate. Real life death is something I usually have to grit my teeth to, but since it may become my job one day I have to get use to it.

Not being offended by movies and games is perfectly fine. In fact, it would be ridiculous and offensive if you offended by them. But (like an idiot I quoted) if you can't be moved or wince at real life death, either you are a desensitized moron who spends to much time looking at things he shouldn't, or you experienced a few traumatic events in your time.

Well, for starters, I'm a Hellblazer fan. So, after watching all the gory hell John Constantine goes through, it's not all that bad. Of course, my whole family loves John Carpenter's: The Thing and I love the Survival Horror game, Extermination.

However, there are some things that will never be accepted as normal. Cue up Anime Hell Zero and uhh...tell me what you think.

To things on the internet? Yes. To jokes about horrible things? Absolutely. To things in real life? No. Not at all.

There's a reason I didn't go into medical school. Too squeamish.

Yes. I've watched probably a dozen or so murder videos online, and no matter what dark, seedy little crevice I peak into, I never find any porn that shocks or disturbs me anymore.

I don't think people are concerned that people will get desensitized and not react to certain images or thoughts. The concern is that people will begin to reenact and recreate those things in real life.
Imitation is not the same thing as desensitization; a more realistic concern would be something along the lines of "desensitization to violence erodes peoples' feelings of empathy."

I'd say I'm somewhat desensitized to what one would see in games and movies. But real life? Far from it. It's one thing to see someone die in a movie, than it is to see someone die in real life.

Well, let's put it this way, I browse /b/ while eating.

Also, I'd say I'm desensitized to creepy stories (creepy pasta), thanks to our own Scary Thread, which I'd recommend you read through, with Haloween coming up.

I'm desensitized to shock images, but it still makes my blood boil when I see people acting like complete retards online. I don't care that they're doing it to get a rise, I still want to set up on a rooftop and put a .308 slug in their idiot brains.

I think there is a difference between 'de-sensitized' and 'able to watch most of the fake, rancid shit posted on 4Chan'.

I am de-sensitized in the sense that I do not give a rat's ass about all those starving Ethiopian kids. In fact, in order for Ethiopia to ever get somewhere, we need to stop giving them food.

I can look at decapitations and whatnot without cringing. Although the 'offended' page on ED doesn't make me feel offended, it makes me wonder why the hell I'm looking at people eating shit, before deciding that there's no reason why I should.

I can stomach almost all types of fictional violence, whether they're in games or movies.
But real life violence, even if it's just in picture or movie form, I literally cannot handle.

Once you've seen certain things online, especially on /b/ and ED, you're desensitized to a lot of things.

That said, I don't know how really de-sensitized I am, as I've never had to deal with a close friend or family member dying or anything like that. I've never seen a person burning to death in front of me, or something like that, so I wouldn't really know.

I think I was desensitized by /b/. Funny thing is, I thought I was already desensitized until I saw gore threads for the first time (and encyclopedia dramatica's 'offensive' page).

I'm no longer surprised by terrible things, lol.

But I consider this an advantage, not a flaw.
This is basically my story as well. I think that being de-sensitized can be a good thing, if you are put in a normally-difficult situation. The less things that bother someone emotionally, the more rationally they can respond to a situation instead of being afraid or shocked.

More than when I was five.

I remember a (hardly. No seriously, there was only one drop of blood or so.) gruesome murder in a detective my parents watched. I had nightmares for weeks.

Now I can watch the blood fly in games like Left 4 Dead, but the more horrible films I can't handle. Like SAW. But why would I want to watch that piece of shit anyway. Horror films are about fear, not about cringing in disgust.

How are they suicide VICTIMS? They killed themselves... They wanted to die.

It depends on what kind of things.

When it comes to gore, I guess I'm desentized, I cut up animals in my biology-glasses anyway, and have dug human remains up and handled them with no problem, and if it's dead, I have no issues with it.

But looking at a medical operations makes me gringe. or watching someone get hurt in real life.

I'm usually more disturbed by casual racism/sexism/homophobia etc. most people wouldn't be.

To a certain extent I would be. Of course I've never faced any real-life gruesome scenarios so realistically I have no idea to know how I'd act.
