To anyone who really talks about inhabitants of industrialized countries not getting enough proteins because of a vegan diet:
You're silly.
To anyone who says you need animal products for bodybuilding:
If you need to grow so many muscles that your affluent society cannot provide you with enough vegan proteins:
I'm scared. Really. Because there's absolutely no need for it. I think one of the world champions in body building is vegan, and this means that somewhere on this forum there are people that have more muscles than him, and I, a 180lbs gym member, am starting to piss them off.
If anyone tells me about the higher qualities of a certain protein:
Those are only important in an unbalanced diet, since a combination of several proteins adds up.
In short: scratch the protein argument.
And I don't think that any user of the escapist forum can still say that they're living naturally, or that their meat consumption is natural. Because that would mean you'd eat lots of meat when you hunted an animal, and then you feed on seeds and fruit until you go hunting again.
The only critical vitamin you need to supplement is B12. B12 is produced in your intestine, but you cannot resorb enough of it. Many food products are enriched in B12, such as certain soy milk brands, and there are pills such as "Veg 1" by the vegan society. Note that B12 is a trace vitamin that will be depleted slowly, so it gets dangerous after many years. I got my blood tested on B12 and homocysteine (another indicator for B12 deficite) among other things last year, and so far my values are fine.
