Would you go back in time to fight in WWII, if you knew you couldn't die?

Probably would, if only to save lives and maybe get a better outcome from the war than we got what with the deathcamps and dozens of millions of military and civilian casualties, not going to enjoy it though that's for sure. War is hell - it's a cliche but it's a cliche for a damn good reason.

Absolutely. As horrible as war might be,
1) It would be a completely unique opportunity, I'm all about those, and
2) I am of German heritage, and I've suffered no end of idiots calling me a Nazi because of it. I relish the fantasy of being invincible, able to find and inflict immeasurable suffering upon Hitler for permanently soiling Germany's name.

Definitely. Even if the fighting was miserable I would do it. It would give me an idea of what my Grandpa experienced (he never told any of my cousins, my brothers and even most of his own family and all I know about his service is from one of my uncles). Plus, as a aviation buff, I wouldn't mind flying around a few of the more famous aircraft in history.

Yeah good point. Rather know whether or not I'm going to destroy the time line by punching out a Nazi.

let me think... i can go to the front of ANY army and fight as a weak no-one-cares-about soldier and the best of all, bullets won't bounce off and i'll still feel pain...
so most probably if i'm lucky i'll get buried from some big explosion and suffocate for the next 4-5 years wishing i could die and that's the best scenario. The worst is if they actually figure out that i can't die, i'll just end nailed-up for the next 4-5 years serving as a shooting dummy or weapon testing subject... no thank you...

OT: I'd tell that wizzard/gene/sexslave/communist/mage to do something with his life other than give a complete stranger a weird scenario.

Not if I couldn't die. It's not the same if you can't die. You know what's worse than death? Survivor's Guilt. That sh!t sucks.

Oh God no. All that killing around you, losing your friends in the blink of an eye & the grief & regrets of other soldiers, it'd be horrible.
Not as horrible as your avatar!

*cries in a corner*

But anyway, no. I agree with you, and with Aby who replied next, and everyone after them. It'd be too horrible an experience, and not getting killed doesn't really change your emotions all that much.

...Though, thinking about it, you wouldn't really have any friends there, if you'd be teleported there. If I had to go there, I wouldn't even try to make friends, really, for that exact reason: losing them.

I'm going to put my answer somewhere in the area of hell and no.

I've never been in a war, i never want to be in a war, but if I ever have to be in a war, I don't think I'd want to treat it like a game. Regardless of what they stand for, good or bad, the people fighting each other are putting their lives on the line... That's not something that should be taken lightly. Going back in tile to experience a war while being invincible... it just wouldn't seem right to me.

Hell yeah I would. If I couldn't die, the war would end the week I teleported there. It would be like my own live action Castle Wolfenstein.

Yeah, sure.
I'd live a different life, understand what most can't even remember anymore, due to the simple fact that most people from that time are passing on.

I think my fellow soldiers might be wondering why I'm getting up from head wounds, though.

hmmmmm that is a toughy, I would say yes if I could be a marine combat medic and try and save my grandfather on iwo jima, I have always wanted to meet him and it would be cool to save his life, also even if we get hit do we feel pain?

Actually I think someone has done this ("go back in time to fight in WW2"-thing), and I got evidence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Churchill

I mean, he fought with SWORD and BOW & ARROW in WW2, played bagpipes and got captured by Germans, survived, then later on became a surfer o_O

Anyways, yes, I'd go back in time to fight in WW2, AS LONG AS I also won't be captured by the Nazis. One thing is fighting in WW2, but being captured and sent to one of the camps or something like that? No thanks.

And hey, fighting on the front lines in WW2 would actually give my life some deeper meaning, as I can't say I've accomplished much otherwise

Yes, definately! Why not?

I'd go and make Germany win, just for the shits and giggles. First thing I'd tell him is,

DON'T. INVADE. RUSSIA.

Since i would be on the losing side, and be actually okay with germany losing back then, i'll pass ^^.

EDIT: And if i'd be on the winning side, i would know that we would win, so there is no point in that either

Honestly, I wouldn't see the point unless I was dedicated to killing Nazis, and I'd prefer to kill some modern ones for being hate-filled racists instead of the somewhat innocent ones that just got drafted or swept up in nationalism. I think killing Hitler wouldn't even serve a purpose, assuming I could end the war earlier. As much as it could be cool saving lives that would have been lost, I see all the vast benefits that WWII contributed to modern day technology. I feel like WWII lasted the perfect amount of time to maximize society's progress before too many people died.

My point is that we learned a lot from the lessons of WWII. From the depravity of humanity to what could be accomplished when the need was aroused. To this day, I don't think we've accomplished as much in 5 years as we did from 1940-45. Changing what happened might be a morally sound choice, but I shudder to think what the 21st century would look like if the war never happened. We might have even had a real war with the Russians because there would have been no prior example of the devastation from atomic bombs. WWII sucked, but I wouldn't change one bit of it.

Time altering aside, yes because you get to firsthand witness history (and if you couldn't die, think of the lives you could save) but no because that shit would warp your fucking head forever. Mind you, this is back when armies would carry rifles that fire .45s, 30-06s, 7.62s, 50 cals, and not wear any body armor! It's kind of barbaric when you look at modern warfare. I would not want to be privy to THAT kind of death.
