if you had a friend that was a surgeon and you had to have an operation, would you let them do it or would you rather someone you didn't know do it? for me, it would all depend on how competent i thought they were and how close friends we were. i lived with medical students for 2 years and became very good friends some of them but i needed an operation, i'd have my preference on which one would do it.

what about you, would you let a friend cut you open?

I reckon my friend would take extra care with me, unless they wrote something on my internal organs or something.

No way. I'd take a bullet for them, but I'd rather die than let them try to operate on me to save me afterwards.

Already have!

I've had stitches stuck in my arm by a friend, he even did a good job of it. For more serious operations, depends entirely on how much I trust them and how good my insurance is. Thinking about it the answer is probably no.

I just watched this episode of scrubs,

I'd let them do it, assuming its something small nothing major (transplant etc.)

I'd allow a friend to operate on me. It would be a rather cool link. "Hey, I was in you!"... Oh.

Depends on the friends really, some have medical backgrounds and the ability to use that skill, so sure. Some have the intelligence to do the job but lack the training, so maybe. Some have neither... in that case I'll take my chances with whatever is wrong with me...

Hell no. Even if they were skilled surgeons, all of my friends are brute-handed, shit talking, drunk-ass roofers. I wouldn't want one of those motherfuckers anywhere near me in that situation. Most of these dudes aren't even right in the head from all the chemicals and adhesives they've inhaled over time. To add to all that, most of them are stoners too. No! I will not have it!

you saw it too, awesome. Turk seems to know what he's doing, i'd have no problem letting him take out my appendix. though having his initials stitched into me would be kinda weird. wouldn't be surprised if my friends did that, though. like he said:

My friends would love to cut me open and poke about.

But I know I'd wake up with "I'm gay" tattooed on my spleen and a small cartoon dick on my testicles.
I'm not gay, so this would be mean.

I would though, I'd let them cut me open if they knew what they were doing. Can always get them back for any practical joke, plus it would make us closer as friends.

Nope.
I think us being good friends would compromise his judgment.
It's my belief that most surgeons like to the see their patient as just another patient. A nameless, faceless person with no ties to them at all.
That's just speculation of course, I don't know know any surgeons, but I was one that's how I would see it.

How would you find out if they did? Hmn?

I have no idea. It depends how good a surgeon they are, and how serious the operation is.

assuming they are trained surgeons. why not?

would you trust someone you know over someone you don't? Dr Ran Dom, might have only performed that particular op 3 times, but your Dr Fry End, might have done it 39 times. if they're in a position to do the job, let them to it.

the question is: could you cut open a friend if you were a surgeon, if you knew there was a chance they might die.
