Would you let a friend operate on you?

I'd let their record decide. If they have a pretty good success rate, then you know, I'd trust them. Most of my friends are pretty stand-up, and I know would take care of me as best as they can.
If I happened to be their first surgery, I might be hesitant, but it would really depend on the severity of the surgery, and what I know about them as people.

Hey hopefully I should be that friend, except not surgery but treatment and stuff.
If my surgeon friend was experienced and competent then yes I shouldn't see why not. So long as they didn't screw with anything while they were in there, I know what my friends are like.

Well, none of my friends have any medical training whatsoever so... no, I don't think so
This reminds me of a Darwin award about a guy in New York who wanted to lose weight but didn't want to exercise and couldn't afford liposuction. Instead he anaesthetised himself with lidocaine and got his friend (who had no medical experience) to cut him open in his garage and perform liposuction using a vacuum cleaner. Unsurprisingly, he died.

Well, a couple of my friends are med-students at the moment (or plan to be). I don't think they're incompetent, so I probably would let them operate on me.
One of my friends actually did graduate as a licensed surgeon a year ago.
If my friend was okay with it, then sure I'd rather have him. I know he doesn't cave to pressure and since he is my friend I could expect him to take good care of me in the operating table.
But only is he was okay with it, I know I would (were I a surgeon) feel a bit weird about operating on one of my friends.

A good friend of mine is an oral surgeon. I haven't had need of him since he became one but I would go to him if I get my gums cut up by broken glass again.
No, it'd make him/her feel horrible if I accidently died. I'd stick with someone who doesn't know me.
I imagine this thread was sparked by an episode of Scrubs I once saw, but I'd only let SUPER MEGA ULTRA close friends operate on me. That and they'd better have the relevant three-four years of medical training too.
