I used to play NWN when I was 13 or so. I had no idea what was really going on, BUT IT WAS THE MOST AWESOME GAME EVER.

Basically, the FIRST mmorpg in an age when the computers required to support such an endeavour were pretty crazyyyness.

And it was worth every grounding I received for the gigantic aol bills.

To this day I still want to get back there and play it again, those old D&D games were hawt

I remember reading about that. There was great grieve once the plugs were pulled. The community was pretty active, and I think there's still some people out there who award the game sentimental value.

To answer the question: no. I won't even pay a monthly fee for any game (damn you The Old Republic in advance...). Call me cheap, but if I bought a game, I want to be able to play it forever, not keep on paying forever.

Agreed.

Remember though that in those days, there was not nearly enough content to keep you playing the game for 2 hours a day, week after week. So there's really no need to make a comparison with modern gaming. And as stated before, eventually the game became free.

What kind of MMO's do you keep having dreams about? Do they involve Cthulhu? It could mean R'lyeh has surfaced.
I heard it did, but what with the crisis and all, nobody really wants to move in there and it's even more of a dump than it was when underwater.

Yearly Pay? Awesome. Monthly Pay? Fine. Weekly Pay? Not so fine, pushing it. Daily Pay? Screw you. Hourly pay? @#*$ you.

I'd just like to say that no MMORPG is worth $6 an hour, but take an average singleplayer console game these days like say God of War or Gears of War, excluding the multiplayer aspect (which if playing on live would cost more money), these games would cost around $70 (at the cheapest) to $120 dollars new (or $65-$90 in american currency). Considering these games offer about 10-15 hours of gameplay when stretched out, you could expect to pay less for them if you paid for hours of gameplay rather than buying it outright, especially if you're a fast.
Just saying.

6 dollars an hour?

Live poker/roulette/blackjack etc. perhaps, but no other game would be worth it, certainly no MMO. At least you have a decent chance of winning your money back on those games.

If my Internet modem dispensed crack cut in gold dust, I'd sure as hell pay 6 bucks. As it is now, Fuck no.

Well, at the time it was considered different and was new. But I would definatly not play someone that required me to pay per hour or something, if I happened to like the game I would cost myself a fortune.
