Don't see why not. I read a comic where 2 of the characters are are gay. Midnighter & Apollo from the Authority.

As many have said, if the character is gay for the sake of being gay at the sacrifice of good gameplay, interesting storyline and fun in general then HELL NO! But if it's done well, then why not.
I just got No More Heroes and Travis is like a polar opposite of me, yet I love the game, so basically same difference, if it's done well and my kind of game then sure.

i may have already, i have played numerous games where in the protagonists sexuality weren't explained, actually the majority of games i play don't feel like this is something worth bothering with, so clearly i don't play that many American games where in a love story is mandatory (fnar fnar, i shall never miss an excuse to look down on your non-European Americans)

That's a good point, on that topic, why don't we see more alternative protagonists in games nowadays, back in the days of the N64 and PlayStation your protagonists could be a strange as you liked.
for instance Kula World on the PlayStation... you were a beach-ball, or Stubbs the Zombie, you were the titular brain hungry ghoul etc.

Well, I guess I can't be against it, can I?^^ I do think the option to be gay should be there, thats no harm... But forcing a character to be gay is a stretch I think. But in RPGs I wan't to be as gay as ever, sure thing!

If sexuality was a major part of the game, probably not. That's not bigotry, that's the simple fact that though I am fully for gay rights, I personally am both not gay, and find the idea of men being intimate with other men...awkward and unpleasant. I would fully understand a homosexual not wanting to play a game that thoroughly examines a hetero relationship. If a Homosexual finds straight intimacy awkward and unpleasant, makes total sense to me. Just a matter of persuasion.
If the main character happens to be a gay man?...if it's a good game, sure. And, there doing something different from the norm, so the game designer is obviously willing to take some risks, which is a good thing. I think the world of gaming needs more characters who just happen to be gay. Make it no longer an issue.
....but if it's a flamboyantly gay man, maybe not. Of course, the issue there is flamboyancy, not sexuality.
And if it has Lesbians, that can only be a plus. I know, its a tad primitive of me, but I just can't help it. I'm just hardwired that way.

Gears Of War (for instance) wouldn't work in the same way with a camp-gay act leading the way, although then I guess the question would be more "would I play a game with bizarre and squiffy plot devices that don't gel?"
