Sure i think we need more games with gay characters, or with the option at least.
Being gay myself it can get annoying seeing that almost every game involving any sort of romance is purely heterosexual. In the same way really that it'd be annoying for straight guys if every game out there was homosexual.

The last thing i'd want though is a flamboyant character, or one that pushes his sexuality onto the player constantly. I wouldn't want his sexuality to be any pivotal part of the story either.
I just want a completly ordinary character that just happens to be gay, even if the only part it plays in the game is a few lines of dialogue.

Would I play a video game even though the main character is gay? Every rational sinapse in my mind says yes. Would I play game where a gay male protagonist romances another man? Well, I'd play a game where a female protagonist falls in love, so why not?

Once upon a time I found a copy of a CD recorded by Cam Clarke, of Metal Gear Solid fame. In this CD, he had made covers of love songs, but from the homosexual perspective. This was of course instantly funny, but just as I could listen to many female rockstars and not be weirded out when they sing about guys they like, I figured this should be no different. But it was different. It was unsettling (and Cam Clarke's terrible singing probably didn't help).

Keep in mind that many gamers hate any straight romantic stories in their video games (and no, Bioware has never qualified as being romantic), and you see why putting a focus on homosexuality is just a bad idea. Games made to appeal to minorities (such as games for the blind) are something I can support, but at the end of the day minorities are all they will appeal to.

Besides, ask enough anime nerd chicks, and you'll find out that all male fictional characters are already gay.

If it built the character and contributed to the story, yes.

No overly camp gay stereotypical characters though, they annoy the hell out of me.

Only if I am promised some delicious man-on-man action at some point in the storyline.
Otherwise, why bother.

after reading the artical "not that theres anything wrong with that" I was wondering would people now adays be ready to play a game with a gay main charater? or lesbain main charater as so not to discrimnate(mispelled).

After Note: To be clear the charater is gay to being with, not rpg style where you choose the sexuall ortation(misspeled)
Yes, BUT HOMOS WILL DESTROY THE WORLD SOON. THIS VIDEO PROVES IT:

As long as he/she didn't act flamboyant in their field of homosexuality AND as long as it didn't play a huge part in the game. I mean for all we know half the protagonists in gaming are gay (Have you ever wondered why Gordon hasn't yet made a move on Alyx? I mean sure he doesn't talk but he could just use sign language or write it down).

I'm a gay woman and I'm writing a comic book with a lesbian main character. Her sexuality is not even a remote focus of the story, but this detail does have me wondering how the story will be received.
I don't know but just make sure your work doesn't flop because it sucks and you accuse people of being ignorant when it really is your work that needs improvement. That just worsens the gay cause. Actually, I think if most gay people did not shove their gayness into the faces of others and yell ignorant when someone asks them to stop, gays would be much much much better received in society - just as all the replies on this thread suggest.

I am pretty sure if I went and shoved my straightness in gay peoples faces and went on and on about how great it is to be straight they would as me to stop as well - and they would have every right to.
Well, I'll forgive that you're just basically unaware of my comic directions, and say that ~IF~ my work flopped, it couldn't be because my main leading role was lesbian (or at the least, not strictly straight). Nor is that my concern. (I'm going to gloss over how that hurts a cause work will have no affiliation with.)

My concern is that because the lead role is a gay woman (or at least not strictly hetro ;)), it will be at best be comparable to a successful indie film. Fan favorite of gay and bisexual women, liked by the hetro guys hoping for saucy Xena scene, and never taken all that seriously beyond maybe a small cult following.

Although that still sounds pretty sweet. :3 I aim high, nevertheless. If it flops because it turns out to suck, I will only blame the main characters sexuality if all my hate-mail says, "I cannot like your comic book because of her sexuality." :) Then maybe forgive the "gay cause."

I did play Army of Two.

Anyways, it depends. Simply being gay wouldn't bother me, and if the gameplay was good I doubt I'd care, but if they made an effort to match the stereotypical flamboyant drama queen gay profile, it might irritate me too much to put up with.
Pretty much ^this^. If they just said he was gay and let the game go on then that would be fine. But when they put the steriotype in it would start to discust me.

"Depends. Technically, I suppose it's already possible to do so to a degree (though rudimentary at best) with Fable, Mass Effect (Liara is feminine, even though her species is "mono-gendered"), and one I've recently picked up, Bully, seems to have a "smooch the boys" option.

Let me be clear, I'm hetero. That said, a game is an escape, and as long as I am enjoying myself, it's not really an issue one way or the other for me. I prefer straight, but a gay male lead wouldn't stop me from playing Castlevania or GTA, though it would probably make soliciting prostitutes and "coffee" scenes a little more awkward."

as long as its a good game, hell yeah, why the hell not; i always thought serious sam was a bit bi.

i think i'd have to agree with the "flamboyant stereotype image"
i wouldn't play it for the same reason i wouldnt consider xblades, that self centred personality type is hideous, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

as for some of the homophobia i seen on these pages...
thats pretty sad to know so many in this community, in this modern day and age are so blinkered and narrow minded that they'd miss out on a game because of the lead characters sexual orientation.
hey, for all you know, master chief and kratos are gay

Preferably no. And if it were to be the most awesome game...
it simply couldn't, because (especially major) game companies wouldn't invest huge amounts of money and effort and working hours in a game where the main character is gay.

There would have to be some kind of a real reason behind it, it couldn't be just because it can be. So, there's a reason for the main character being gay. That means there must be some kind of gay content/activity in the game.

That'll make the reviewers and gamers definitely point that out: It will be the gay game, no matter how good/bad/innovative the game is. That would be the number one thing associated with the title. It would affect a market slice not to buy this game. Some people would be very ashamed to buy or play it. Some gay organizations would be offended, and so on...

So: I wouldn't play a game with a gay main character, because it most probably wouldn't be a well thought game with interesting content and a great gameplay. Not specifically looking for gay stuff in gaming either, so there wouldn't be too many reasons.

No? Just no? What, so you're saying you're homophobic for...what reason? Please explain yourself because I have a huge problem with people who hate other people based on something they cannot control.
Homophobes are afraid of homosexuals. I'm ju- wiat read my latest post before this dumbshit.
Yes obviously I know it means you are afraid of them as in phobia, but often the people who can be called homophobes hate them as well. I just don't see why it matters at ALL if it's a game. I'm also not gonna fucking wade through 14 pages of comments to find your next comment because honestly who cares about someone's opinion when they are afraid of other people who have no control over what they are.

What, wasn't "humans would extinct" enough of an explanation for you?
I can't tell if you're joking or not, but if you're not, EXTINCT is not a verb you fucking retard. If you are, then I'm glad you can see through their stupidity as well.

Being a gay or straight character. Does it make a difference? I wouldn't play a game if it forced gay sex on to you. Then again I wouldn't play a game if it forced straight sex onto you. I play games to have fun not to watch porn or to worry about people's sexual orientation.

Yeah, I've got a character prepped in this vein for Dragon Age.
I've played the evil heterosexual human two-weapon fighter, now its time to go gay (just in game) as a rogue. Now what's the best choices to go with duellist, hmmmm?

As long as he's not in your face, witha stupid effeminate lispy voice and insanely camp behaviour I'd play.
