Oh God, that'd actually be an interesting experiment. Just see how the media reacts.

and it would break immersion at one point or the other, since there's no point making the main character homosexual without doing anything with it (which was the whole problem I had with Dumbledore in Harry Potter, but that's a rant for another time).
So, wait, unless the homosexuality of a character is made into a big spectacle, then a character shouldn't be gay at all?

wut is this i don't even

I don't see why anyone should have a problem with it. Homosexuals are, without a doubt, people too. Having people play characters as such is a non-issue unless they happen to be playing an erotic game.

I do prefer it subtle, though. Something you have to notice things about to put together that, holy snap, character X is not heterosexual! Of course, I like that with all my character elements.

Now Zorrha (it's spelled wrong,I know) knows what I mean! It just seems uncomfortable playing a gay guy. Not sure why, really. Just that find it reallllly creepy. No offense meanst,of course. If it was one of the others and not the main hero,It'd be fine.
That is an irrationally homophobic statement. "I don't know why I feel this way, I just do!" is pretty weak reasoning in all regards. There's a deep, ugly reason you feel the way you do (whether it be religion, personal values, or how you were raised). Not admitting it to us is one thing, but not being truthful to yourself make you a hypocrite.

Offense is taken. What you said is akin to saying, "Y'know, I really don't feel comfortable playing white/brown characters." One could easily perceive you as xenophobic or racist in that regard, which you most likely would be.

Yes I would. I think that it would be awesome to have more variety with our story lines. I have enjoyed where video games has taken me, and look forward to where the will take me in the future.

If he was one of those incredibly camp gays who was really funny, YES.
If he was a cool guy who just happened to be gay (i know a guy like this) YES.
If he was a incredibly annoying gay who had loads of cutscenes where he takes it up the arse, NO.

I'm not saying it has to be a big spectacle, you're taking what I said and blowing it out of proportion. All I'm saying is there's no point in making him/her homosexual unless there is some evidence that they are. Take Dumbledore for example. The fact that he was homosexual didn't change anything. There was so little evidence for it in the book that it had to be said by the author for us to get a proper assessment.

No I probably wouldn't play a game where I was forced to play a gay character.
I wouldn't be able to relate and I'd be uncomfortable with any romantic scenes.

This really should have been a poll so we can see what it all sums up like.
No offense, but have you ever played a Japanese / Alien / superhuman or God / or even someone in a completely different profession? You couldn't relate to them either. That being said, the romantic scenes could be off-putting. But as far as I know, the only question is "would you play a main character who's sexual orientation was homosexual?". That could mean you play "Baddy Mc Badass", killing nazis and aliens and saving the world, with call of duty action, and mass effect-like decisions to be made. And the main character just happens to be gay, with no other mention of it. Maybe a snide remark from a friend once in a while.

Just making a point.
I almost believed you, then I noted that you said 'Japanese'. How exactly would I be unable to relate to a Japanese person? That strikes me as racism, yes there are cultural difference but that doesn't stop me relating to them.

If the game is 'giving mass effect-like decisions' then why can't I choose to be heterosexual?
I'm heterosexual, I like playing my games as a heterosexual and I see nothing wrong with my choice to not play homosexual characters. Just like any person can choose to be homosexual.

If the main character being homosexual is a selling point I will not purchase or play the game because it will not interest me.
The question wasn't that it was a selling point, only that the main character happened to be gay. It never had to be heavily emphasized or mentioned over and over again. Just that it existed. There's nothing wrong with choosing to be straight every time for the few games that give you chances. But there are some games that "force" (and I use that word within the appropriate context) you to be white, black, male, female, tall, short, etc. Why not one that's gay, that affects gameplay nil? As for the "Japanese" usage, granted, now that you point that out, it might be a poor choice. Let me say append that with "vast culturally different background" instead and let it apply to any ethnicity, culture, race, etc. This could include any race or time. Back to topic though, just that the main character was gay. It doesn't even have to be mentioned on the back of the game case bullets.

Sure, why not?

I played Army of Two (nuff said), and most of us have probably played Metal Gear Solid and realized that Snake and Otacon were.....having a special relationship.

For the most part it probably wouldn't matter and in a game that would make it matter, I wouldn't bother playing.

Unless it has you taking it up the rump, you shouldn't even notice it making much of a difference.
