Well consider I love Battlefield 2142 then I would definitely give it a lot of consideration.

I'm not a huge fan of the COD franchise but I generally end up picking the games up after a while...

I sounds pretty good although I think they should go further back in time. WW1, American Revolution...you get the idea.

COD: Cave Wars... Yep I would play that.

Cave Control: Ugg-Ugg come in!
Ugg-Ugg: I is here!
CC: We need you to disable the Rockies' WMD (Winged Monster Dinosaur)!
UU: How do I do this?
CC: Improvise with a spear, T-Rex and some rocks... You get the general idea.

Oh hell yes. I would really like if they dropped all pretense to reality, and just made it as unrealistic as possible. I mean like "You have a magical space backpack that lets you carry fifteen of every weapon in the game and shitloads of ammo for them" unrealistic, the "Jetpacking through space fighting off aliens with Ray Guns" unrealistic, that sort of thing.

Probably not. I still haven't played Black Ops, and I don't want to. I'm glad I only spent $25 on Modern Warfare 2 because I'd have felt ripped off if I'd spent more. I think that says a lot about my opinion of the franchise. As for the future warfare thing: we have tons of games with "future warfare" already. I might be open to the idea of a game that's less science fiction and more speculative fiction, but the idea isn't all that exciting.

Personally, I don't think WW2 is overdone, I think the Western Front of the European Theater of WW2 is overdone. I'm sick of it, like most gamers probably are. I want to see games set entirely on the Eastern Front, the bloodiest part of the bloodiest war ever, which has been relatively neglected because it didn't have squeaky-clean G.I.s draped in Old Glory. I also want to see games set in the Pacific, with their own sort of feel to them, distinct from any WW2 game with Nazis in it... I'd hope for a focus on the tense, primal sort of warfare that took place in theater Fighting in a jungle should not feel like fighting in France with more palm trees.

Going away from WW2 entirely, why not Korea? That was NOT a small or one-sided war. It would be easy to set a game in that conflict!

I doubt it would work. In a series ostensibly meant to be realistic, attempts to be prescient about the future of combat will look ridiculous in twenty years' time.
It would be very difficult for Call of Duty to look much more ridiculous as an attempt to be realistic, barring the appearance of extraterrestrials or the Illuminati.

In 20 years time, they won't care because they will have made 50 cod games in the meantime.

No thanks. I liked COD4 and MW2 but Black Ops to mind is pretty dull and at times downright boring. It definitely wasn't worth the money I paid for it, although the singleplayer experience wasn't bad.

I'll definitely be passing up future COD's.
