Would you still read your favorite manga if it were a normal book?

One of my friends asked me a good question while I was reading the newest copy of Fullmetal Alchemist "would you still read that if it were a book" I had to think about but I chose yes. I know there are some manga that have books for subplots but I do not read those because they are not as interesting as the main story.

Edit: This might of worked better a poll but it should be fine.

I doubt it. Rave Master has a lot of visual additions and things. A lot of the books is just eyeing up the women boobies jugs environments.

If Phillip Pullman wrote a proper book (I refuse to use the word 'novelise' for exactly the same reason that I also refuse to use the phrase 'graphic novel') on Miyazaki's 'Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind' then I would read it. Its all about getting the right authors.

I don't read manga. However, I am reading the Amory Wars comics as they are released. I would most certainly read these if they were novels instead of graphic novels. Actually, Claudio has said that he plans on translating Second Stage Turbine Blade into a novel as soon as he finishes the In Keeping Secrets of the Silent Earth: 3 graphic novels. I'm excited.

Probably.
It just depends on how Visual the Artist/Author is.

If it could keep the same level of story quality without the visual aspects then defiantly.

Amazed by the amount of people who don't read manga yet still clicked on the topic. My favourite manga is Immortal Rain (or Methuselah, whichever) which would be AWESOME as a book - obviously, if done correctly. The action, while awesome, is few and simple and the dialogue and emotions is where it's at. It would work great as a book.

Well, manga/comics *are* books--I would say to your friend. I think about my favorite manga: Sanctuary. Would I read it as a non-graphic book. Sure. It wouldn't be as good, but I would anyway. I mean, I watched the Sanctuary film. I've read Ms. Tree novels. Sure.

But graphic novels/manga are an art form just as legitimate as non-graphic novels.

He meant like a normal or word book. He did not say novel because that would not be proper.

Actually some very popular series started out as light novels (as opposed to manga). Off the top of my head:

Slayers
Twelves Kingdoms
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
