I would only enter it only if the machine is still link with the outside world information no matter how harsh the reality is (like natural disaster. My perfect life will still need my daily dose of latest episodes, games etc.

Yeah, I think no. I don't think that a perfect life would be boring, but that whole "not knowing where you're going oh and btw it's permanent lol" aspect is pretty disconcerting. I'd rather have a choice to totally screw up royally. But I deeply fear change, so.

Besides, a perfect life sounds boring. It's the shit stuff that makes life interesting.
This. This exactly.

To everyone saying a perfect life would be boring, if it's boring then it wouldn't be perfect >.> So I think you're missing the point. If it seems fake to you then it wouldn't be perfect either :/

Hmm on one hand I'm thinking that it'd be selfish to my friends and family in real life, since I'd be pretty much locked away for the rest of my life, but on the other hand my real life is pretty boring and having a perfect life isn't an opportunity that I'd want to miss out on.

For now I'm gonna say I'd go with a perfect life but when/if my real life picks maybe I'd change my mind :p

Again you're both missing the point. A perfect life does not mean eternal happiness.

If it's boring then it's not perfect, if it seems fake in any way then it's not perfect. A perfect life would have happiness, sadness, drama, etc, but it'd all be in perfect balance to make your overall life be as enjoyable as possible.

this is like the book "Pendragon: the reality bug" where almost everyone on the planet is in a virtual reality tube and the world goes to hell cause nobody cares about maintaining it and just want to be in their virtual perfect reality.

oh and i wouldn't go in because it wouldn't be interactions with real people just computer programs and i find that extremely unsettling even if i wouldn't know that im in the machine

Hi,
on a tv show I was watching they were asking about whether you would use this machine if it existed.

Once you enter the machine, you're life is transformed into your perfect life. You live this life until you die. Also once you've entered the machine, you will never know that your "fantasy" life is fake.

EDIT:
Can't believe I forgot this but, also once you enter the machine, you can never leave it until you die.
Gotta love The Ricky Gervais Show.

OT: Yeah, why the fuck not? I'd be absolved of all memory/guilt in leaving my 'real' life the moment I enter the tank and I'd be quite excited at the prospect of a life that isn't shit.

Same! When Karl said "I'll just get in the tank" I literally rolled on the floor and laughed for five minutes straight. Then I told my Dad when he asked what all the noise was about, and he did pretty much the same.

OT: I definitely would, no hesitation. After all, my last name isn't Pilkington, so I don't have to worry about the taste of Munchies :p

Reminds me of that thing from Inception where all those old people were sleeping, then they wake up and it's all a dream. I'd do that when I'm really old and done with life.

Isn't this like a short science fiction story? I feel like I've seen this before, only from the Point of View of a worker who has to take care of the people in the machines. If anyone knows what I'm talking about please let me know, otherwise I'll be trying to Google Search this for ages...

OT: No I probably wouldn't. I mean sure a perfect life would be great, but it just seems so fake from the outside

I do not see any reason why not. It's practically the same experience as a good life in the real world. If it feels real, and you think it's real, it's real enough. (See reference: The Matrix)

Reminds me of the virtual reality game Better Than Life from Red Dwarf, which was supposed to give you what you wanted most. The problem was that one of the characters was so full of self-loathing that his sub-conscious basically set out to destroy him as part of his 'true desire'.

Now I question would you also be aging in this machine, so when you die you die in both real world and fake world, or does this machine baiscally run and when you die in the fake world its only been a small amount of time in the real world, either way I would totally use this machine. No questions asked.

But, what about the problem hole?

I wouldn't. Sure, you can live the perfect life, but in the end, you'll never make a difference, completely removed from the world like that.

Gotta say no. Living a perfect life would be the most boring existence I can think of.

I'm relatively sure the truly perfect life would factor in plenty of interesting shit.

OT: Yeah, may as well.
