I feel like the people running the machine would get very bored and either pause the machine and leave, leaving you in eternal...well...pause, or just leave and let you starve.

Only a desperate person would go to such lengths to escape reality.

And first and foremost, who determines what is 'ideal'? Once you take this route, you would no longer be able to choose what you want in life, everything would have to be ideal and you wouldn't know that's the way it's supposed to be.

Ignorance... is not bliss for me. I would not. I would not willingly give up my reality and the adversity that makes my friends and girlfriend so amazing for me. No, I decline your machine.

Hi,
on a tv show I was watching they were asking about whether you would use this machine if it existed.

Once you enter the machine, you're life is transformed into your perfect life. You live this life until you die. Also once you've entered the machine, you will never know that your "fantasy" life is fake.

EDIT:
Can't believe I forgot this but, also once you enter the machine, you can never leave it until you die.
So, Better Than Life, then? Not just from Red Dwarf the show, but the book?

I'm actually going to say no, because Jack's life is pretty awesome right now.

"You think that's air you're breathing?"
EDIT: No I would not use it. Escaping from real life is not a valid answer, in my book. The point of life is to see the good things among the bad.

Yes, I would. Matrix in the Matrix? Damn right!
...Oh, and all those rainbows and happiness and stuff, but who cares.

I would. If I would have no guilt then it wouldn't be a problem.

2nd: by and chance is this the Ricky Gervais Show?

and 3rdly. I hate to be that guy, heck I get pissed by people who do this to me, but this question was asked not long ago.

problems are what shape a person. And we are ussually to short sighted to see the benefit in those situations. I don't think I could ever predict what the perfect life would be for me.

I fear someone leading a perfect life would become a bit insufferable and ungratefull, watch
'the list' episode of southpark for a nice example of how that could work.
as the person above mentioned the matrix, listen to Smith, he says humans reject the perfect world, it's unnaturel/univentfull. Ofcourse it's a movie but it kind of makes the point I'm getting to.

I suppose if the machine would give me a normal life and just prevent kittens from drowing, incest and torture. Leaving the rest of lives problems for what they are, so I guess the problem with the machine would be that the defenition of 'perfect' is kind of shaky in this regard

No, because sure as well there'll be some terrorist group hell bent on sabotaging the machines, and I'd rather at least be able to defend myself.

Also, Captcha: "Well done", Why thank you :D

Ricky gervais show right?

and nah, because your kids would only be dream kids and not carry on when u die, which sucks, I want kids and grankids and great grandkids to all remember me and have my stuff for generations to come. I don't want all my existance and all i leave behind to just vanish when i die :( I wanna live on through my kids.

There was a similar machine in the third novel of the Pendragon series. As for the question: why the hell wouldn't you? Everyone would. If its your perfect life (and of course assuming the machine is capable and has enough information to replicate and learn to cover any scenario) than you could live and do whatever you wanted (ie. it wouldn't be boring because you can do, make and be whatever the fuck you want). You would literally become a God, or at least in your mind. Besides if you don't know its not real, how is it different from real life?

No, I wouldn't. In theory, it sounds great, however I would essentially be abandoning everyone who cares about me. It would be akin to suicide. My parents, my brother, my girlfriend, all my friends, none of them would ever see me again, and I refuse to do that. My life right now is pretty good, so I would stay right where I am.

So basically it's like the Matrix, except without getting your body used as a generator to power the robots which took over the world?

I might use it.

If I didn't know it was fake I'd be tempted, but I got to say no, unless my gf can enter with me and we can still be together.
