I'd like to have a Katana in my bedroom. I want to learn how to use it properly, buy a nice one and leave it in my room[footnote]hidden of course[/footnote] so I would have something to defend myself with if Ninja's or CIA thugs[footnote][small]or zombies for that matter[/small][/footnote] came after me for some reason.

A more serious answer to my own question is that I would like a Katana because I've always admired them and swords in general. I wouldn't pull it out very often and I'd, well, just think it'd be awesome to have one. With my current budget I will not be able to afford one anytime soon.

Would you want a Katana? Why?

Yes, I would. It's a fancy sword, and I like swords. If I'm going to be collecting anything in the future, it'll very likely be swords and other fancy weaponry.

Yes, because they're just... amazing. Plus you get to watch people react to the news that you have a katana in your room.

I don't need a katana, I already have an axe. A katana to put next to it would be good though.

I was thinking of buying one actually, but...didn't. *sigh*
Yeah, I'd love to have one, if only to scare the crap out of Jehovah's Witnesses...

No, I would not want a katana.
Primarily because I'm pretty sure its fairly hard to get a sharpened one, the ones they sell in malls and online are dull and just for show. Pretty much useless, and makes it essentially a cheap piece of metal on a hilt, that cost you a lot of money.
If one somehow managed to get a real sharpened katana, it would be pretty hard to find some actual classes to teach one how to use the damn thing. Most martial arts classes are a complete load and I'm sure that ones that go into actual useful techniques on how to use a weapon, some that I've experienced are just show/competition movements, are even harder to find.
Without training one would probably hurt themselves pretty badly.
I'd rather find a more practical weapon.

I want one. More precisely i want a cosplay katana. "Murcielago" the sword of Ulquiorra Schiffer. I would settle for any katana, really, but having his would just make it even more awesome.

Why would I? When a Walther P99 does a much better job, and it looks much nicer. Im not of the phantasmagorical mind set where i wish very badly to be some lame anime character.

I have several 'just-for-show' sets of the Katana/Wakazashi/Tanto setup, but I do have one Sword that isn't quite a masterpiece, but isn't a factory piece either.
I wish I knew how to use them, but there are no places in the vicinity of my home to learn =/
So until I find one, I keep collecting.
Edit: On other note I have my .357 S&W to fall back on for more practical means.
>.> The bullets aren't cheap however, so...yeah.

The novelty wears off when you get a job, and all your friends have jobs, and all of you are kinda geeky, so now everyone gets a katana, and now your entire group of friends goes 'eh, my katana is better than yours' as they compare katanas.

And then you get to watch them react to the news that you don't care about the ninth katana you've seen that week.

Me being the "knife/sword/anything with a combat-plausible blade on it,or any combat-plausible weapon that doesn't require exploding for that matter" nut that I am,I would LOVE to have a katana. And a tanto. And a wakizashi. And a no-dachi. and a zweihander. The list goes on. I realize it's a personal choice, and if you really want a katana (combat ready ones are going to be almost impossible to find, just so ya know) and your financial situation allows it,go for it! It'd be an interesting conversation piece if anyone ever brings it up.

I'll just attach a chain between them and claim it's an exotic weapon. Katanaxe-chucks rolls off the tongue pretty well I reckon. :p

Don't like anime? Fair.

But don't hate on the sword, man, done authentically they're beautiful.

(with you on the handgun rock, sword scissors, though. I'd just want a USP45 ;))

I could see myself kind of wanting one. It would just be an interesting piece to put out on display.
