I have always liked swords and would like to know how to use them, but I don't know about having one. I'm happy with my guns really.

I'd prefer a sakabatou, coupled with Hiten Mitsurugi training at an early age, which results in death at an early age, but...it's worth it.

i jsut lvoe swords
and well most weapons

btw please forgive the spelling

spear dude
yes polearms rock but your basic wooden spear vs ANY metal sword is kinda silly.
i'm sure a half way skilled swordsperson could parry or even cut your spear in two.
i agree with the machete and scimata guys cus those both rocks
cavalry swords are ok but the old one i had broke really easily
l sword. bsword. claymore.. whatever.... yeah all are fine but curved blades all the way if u bother with a blade at all
knives rock but it really depends on what ur doing... i personally love the stilleto as they are jsut nasty. some like butterfly knives or switch blades... but just your old fashion bowie knife kinda rocks

i do love katanas but i think from a practical point your basic blunt weapon rocks..... say a tirethumper.... but a pick style weapon also rocks

sorry to rant

ohyeah to the canadian ddue
actually i ca natest that in one US state, not naming names, if you go ont osomeone land wihtout their permission and they tel lyou to leave 3 times..... they can totally shot you dead. and a posted warning around the property boarder coutns as the first get off my land. even if u dont see the poster as long as they are posted in a certain way blah blah blah blah
so yeah
some states are crazy enough

ohyeha so hand hald weapon like a machete or bokken for zombies or what have you

and guns for actual home defence

never tried a tazer but they look fun
more party favors then weapons form what i'v see nbut those are the over the counter kind u have to physically touch someoen wiht not liek the ones the cops got

lets jsut get out the Vulcon and be doen with it.... i think i spelled that right

Hell yes! I already have a weighted wooden one already and I think I can wield that fine. A real one would just ROCK!

I would say yes but I already have two katanas. Plus I also have a metal staff that comes apart into twin swords. Yeah I'm prepared.

I would have that, a naginata, a pair of tanto, a nodachi and a wakizashi. I'd also have a chinese halberd, a viking axe, a spartan shield..... so much. Don't get me started on guns.

No I don't want one.

For self-defense it would have about the same effect as a baseball bat. Even with a katana you have to be close enough to hit them, and if you get somebody in the head with a bat they wouldn't be a threat anymore. Hitting them in the arm or the leg would injure them enough for you to incapacitate them. Sure running at someone with a sword would be more than enough to scare them away, but so would running at someone with a bat in most cases. Theres pretty much no practical use for a katana anymore. Especially since, you know, guns came around.

As for decoration yeah it'd be pretty and neat, but it's not my thing. I don't care to be my favorite anime hero much. Not that I have one. It would be interesting as a piece of history, but not much else. There are plenty of things that i'd like to hang on my wall before a katana.

reasons to buy a katana
1. it looks awesome
2. it is on of the more convenient swords to be carrying around because it is light
3. it is legal to carry one around in america because it is considered and unconventional weapon and as long as your not swinging it around cops cant do a thing
4. self defence, they pull a knife, you pull a katana

I'd only want a katana if I had some super abilities or could cast magic, or something to level the playing field. In use a katana can be deadly, but only if you get the first hit, you hit a unarmored spot on your opponent/s or the katana itself is so sharp it can go through anything

If I could have the katana and some sort of powers id want it so the blade would never get dull or break, or anything. Basically the perfect japanese sword... if possible I wouldnt mind if I could get some lightning powers like Nobunaga Oda from SW... or hell a Ranmaru slave that I can do things too...

Tl;dr No

Not a Katana, but maybe some other kind of sword. If I start a collection some day I will include a katana in it I am sure.

Yes. To kill people, obviously.

That's generally the course of action when one owns a Katana.

I already have a set of 3 but they're getting really blunt and it's hard to find the right equipment to re-sharpen them these days.

Personally I'd prefer something smaller, especially living in Canada. Under 8 inches and I don't need a permit, so if I can stay in that range... Still effective (more so in a self-defence at home situation, especially in my house), easily concealed, and no pain in the ass paperwork.
