Would you want to live in the world of "Fallout"?

I wish somebody would nuke this world already, and put an end to all these boring and childish things like "proper education" and politics. I think people can only learn the value of life, when they're on the brink of survival.

I also want the atomic guns and my own PipBody...Any thoughts?

Not really. I think the atmosphere of the more recent Fallout games have gone out of their way to show us an environment that is harsh, intimidating and unforgiving. Deathclaws, Cazadors and Giant Scorpions? Fuck that.

No, just...........NO. Chances of survival in the first place would be minimal and even if you did survive the nuclear firestorm then its unlikely you will be one of the few fortunate to get into a vault (or unfortunate depending on your view of Vault Tec). Its a solid no from me and Id point a flashlight on the sanity of those who would willingly choose it.

I think I would prefer to live on the surface of the sun, as I feel my life expectancy would be moderately higher and at least the sun won't shoot me in the testicles for no fucking reason.

The world of Elder Scrolls, on the other hand... that one is a little more questionable as the economy seems fairly stable, there's plenty of food, and if you want to learn how to defend yourself then there are places that teach you just that - and all you have to do is walk in and ask! The existence of trolls, vampires, imps, assassins, ghosts, and evil gods kind of makes it a bit more dangerous, but they seem to stay away from people most of the time. And they actually have society, entertainment, intellect, schools, knowledge, and books.

And occasionally, someone might rob your house down to bedrock and glue a ring that sets its wearer on fire onto your finger for absolutely no reason.


Seriously, any conversation of 'do we want to live in this fictional landscape' must address the issue of how this fictional landscape was built for one person to fuck around in.
And if we are all living in it, we are not all that one guy.

Huh. This is worth a bit of a chuckle.

You could try living in one of the poorer countries in Africa or Asia if you want to see the "brink of survival". And then throw in all of Fallout's massive creatures who roam the land daily, looking for some food. Chances are it will be you. Oh, and imagine the constant radiation sickness that you'll be trying to fend off as well as hunger from so little food, sleep deprivation from trying to make sure your pitiful encampment continues to work all throughout the day and night, and on top of that all the real-world stress from not having enough currency to keep yourself, much less a family, fed. Throw in the raiders, and you're in for a pitiful sorry existence.

New Vegas' atmosphere seems to be a little bit more hopeful, if not just because there's a semblance of organized government in the form of the NCR. But it still isn't a very happy place to be.

I know.

Hence the reason I never gave a definite answer as to whether I really would like to live there or not. I simply said that it's a little more questionable.

And remember that, at least in the case of Oblivion, there really isn't "that one guy". I don't think the other three had that either. There was just a guy you started as who happened to be in the right place at the right time. Were I to live in the world of Oblivion, I would do my utmost best to be able to defend myself. I wouldn't be "that guy", the main character who dicks around with people for shits and giggles. But I would ensure that I'm a formidable foe to anyone.

Yes, but those people generally aren't invisible and should you fire a weapon at them in self-defense, the bullet is not usually reflected perfectly right back into your face.

I enjoy Dead Island. I was in a game with two friends, this morning. A random person joined our game, hocked a grenade at our feet and then disconnected as we detonated.

Such things do not often happen in real life.
