Would you welcome a Breath of Fire return?

Going through my old collection of games, I came across some of my old Breath of Fire games. I thought to myself " my god, it's been a ages since I last played one" and then realized it had been longer still since one was even made. I know Capcom has issues now and again when it comes to continueing franchies they should, like say... Megaman Legends.

The Breat of Fire series has always been one of my Favorite RPGs of all time, even more then most Final Fantasy games. It's perhaps the only RPG series that I've actually managed to play and beat every single game at least once.

My point is, I'd gladly welcome a return of the old series if Capcom would ever get around to doing it. Honestly I'd rather see another BoF game then DMC, but thats just my personal opinion. Would any of you be interested in seeing it's return?

Yes I would. A current gen Breath of Fire V perhaps would be incredible. I'm a major JRPG player, but I still haven't actually finished a BoF game. Your thread caught my eye cause I am actually playing Breath of Fire IV.

Funny thing is I own all the games in physical form except 2 which I downloaded off Wii VC. I'm just now getting around to it. I plan on playing the others (except I might have to reget 3 as I think my disc might be damaged).

I would like to see the series return to its roots though, Dragon Quarter just rubbed me the wrong way.

Capcoms got enough good will earned from Dragons Dogma as far as I'm concerned.
They could give it a shot. I wouldn't even be upset if it's a terrible game.

The thing is, I loved Dragon Quarter as much as I did because it was such a departure from the rest of the series.
The shift in tone, while jarring for some, was a breath of fresh air (ironically, if you've played it) for me because it was a shift I had yet to experience.
The combat was awesome, and is still pretty unique to this day.

OT: A new BoF would be sweet, provided they take Dragon Quarter and expand on what they did with it.

I liked the the two Breath of Fire games on the SNES and Breath of Fire III on the PS1 was alright too. I think though that those kinds of JRPG's are dead on consoles. A JRPG on a console today has to be a borefest with alot of talking, alot of cutscenes and alot of long animations.

I would take a new Breath of Fire games in the SNES style for the 3DS though.

Absolutely! The 3rd was my favourite, though I think it might be time to change the battle system to something less rigidly turn-based, maybe without random encounters (I'm replaying BOF 2 right now and even I get exasperated with its insane battle rate sometimes).

More than any other JRPG, Breath of Fire placed great emphasis on using different formations for your party, maybe have different combination attacks available for different formations.

After 4 the series just lost the plot to me.

It would probably be like ffx all over again if you need an example of why that always is a dance on a volcano.

From what I've played of no 1, 3 and Dragon's Quarter, they're very average. Of course, you could say more JRPGs are, but even more so. In other words: No, not really.

Id love to see another breath of fire game, bof 2 is still one of my all time favorite games around and 3 and 4 and dragon quarter were all awesome. But I would want to see it on pc since I don't use consoles anymore... sometimes my 3ds and I might get the new wiiU though.... I don't know, yeah give me more bof.

I would buy a new console if I had to to get BoF V. It is definately my favorite JRPG series-I loved the characters, the setting, the enemies, the battle style, etc. I would hope that if a new one came out, they would use a battle system like BoF 4 had (but with the transformation system of 3). Sadly, I don't see it happening anytime in the near future. A lot of excellent playstation franchises have died out on the transition from PS1 to PS2 and from the PS2 to the PS3. Sadly, Breath of Fire seems to have been one of them.

Oh my god, yes. In fact, I developed my own little cast of characters and plot just becuase I love the series so much. What I had in mind was much along the lines of Breath of Fire 3 (my favorite in the series, though I'm playing BoF4 on my PS3) except I'd extend the gene splicing to 6 and re-introduce the shamans from BoF2. Trainers would return as well, though there would be tweaks as to what Basically, for a story - Myria has had enough of trying to get her way and is now seeking to rid the planet of all of its sentient inhabitants by strategically putting kingdoms and races against one another until there's nothing left. The Black Dragon family would return, as would DeathEvan and Barubary! Naturally, it's up to Ryu and his companions to stop Myria...once and for all.

I think the series has just as much potential as Final Fantasy, even moreso by having actual consistant world in which they live in. Granted there is a chance it's not always the same world. I would like to see however a return to the classic fantasy setting instead of the more... I guess gritty setting of Dragon Quarter. Though I guess the actual setting if there is a timeline, would need to be set long before or long after Dragon Quarter so as to not share the same asthetics.

I'd perfer it to be on a console then say a handheld, by the fact I don't like playing handheld games. Having my head turned down that long makes my neck hurt. Their excuse before to not make more sequels was due to an oversaturated RPG market. If anything, the opposite can be said now adays. Except for a few western RPGs, some JRPGs that don't even make it into the states, RPGs aren't flooding the market like they used to. As for voice acting, yea it can be a hit or miss. Final Fantasy X was a bad example of this happening, but if done right it can be good. Especially if they just decide to make Ryu mute which in many games is actually true, and just some mechanic to avoid having the main character not having a personality.

I loved Dragon's Dogma, showing capcom is still interested in RPGs to begin with, I don't see why not then, to reintroduce the series into the next age. It's been 10 years since a new game was developed, and I could definatly see it having potential to being awesome, as long as they don't strive too far from the givin formula again like Dragon Quarter. I liked the game no doubts there, but I'd like to see the fantasy setting return.

Yeah, I should probably give DQ another chance. I do recall it had great combat. I think the restarting the game mechanic turned me off, but it is an interesting concept. I like how when you restart it adds more scenes to the story and such. Maybe one day I'll pop it in and give it another go.

hell yeah, I loved the breath of fire series, it's one of the best jrpg series out there, hands down, and with what systems can do nowadays they could do some pretty awesome stuff with that world with new graphics and other such things, as long as they don't use the same kinda combat system that they had in FF13 or whatever that shit is lame, I prefer turn based to that.
