I just got an E-mail saying all currently subbed accounts with a lvl 50 or a legacy lvl 6 account get a free month of game time, at first I thought it was a phishing scam or something, but no, I log into my account from the official website, lo and behold there was 30 days extra right after my time was about to expire.

So what say you escapist community, was this an act of pure generosity or cry of desperation?

I don't know. But I don't think it was generosity. Just my opinion.

They claim they are not losing subscribers around the same time they throw down a 30 day free subscription. They activated everyone accounts around the same time they took a poll to see how many people have activated accounts.

Its a conspiracy!

Well maybe not... I will take free game time anytime. I love the game and considering I spent extra to get the collectors edition and the amount of hours I put in I feel like I deserve this.

EA is a sinking ship, and Bioware is going to be thrown off sooner or later so they will sink just a little slower.

I love the game to be honest, yea its like WoW, but thats what people wanted.

The general age group for the game is a lot older than most people think (young kids on these forums *cough cough*) because its Star Wars fans that have been fans since the first movies. So yea, complain about 'TORtanic' HERP DERP FUNNY JOKE all you want, but its doing fine at the moment. If it goes downhill it goes downhill. If it gets better (which it has been) than yay for us.

Its not directly affecting anyone and you people aren't playing it.....

so why does this matter to you?

Game is doing fine. There are a few things that need improvement and the free month is nice. I guess they put it as an incentive for people who left/were thinking to leave/are loyal and i won't complain. Free month is always nice :p

When does giving free stuff become desperation? Should they charge for everything and not give any rewards for players?

Also, this was announced at least 2 weeks ago, the OP only found this out now? Why are you posting this now?

I think I got my commander shep... err, Republic soldier to around level 43ish before I stopped playing, tried out the first few levels of some of the other classes as well. Might be tempted to download the game again if they threw some free game time at me, but I wouldn't pay for it.

Actually scratch that, I doubt I'd bother to re-download it right now. Maybe in a few months EA when I've less to do I might be tempted to play a bit again so long as it's free.

EA are learning their lesson I guess, it's not flopping with the speed of light like WAR.

Though I really wish it did, it's the most wasteful project in the history of gaming. 200 million on replicating technology from 8 years ago, poorly.

So people are mocking EA for giving out free shit? They finally start trying to build a sembalance of goodwill within the community and you just go "LOL DESPERATE!"

You want EA to stop being dickbags? Actually give them credit when they do something nice.

OT: Well I don't own the game, my laptop has a fit if I try to run anything more stressful than League of Legends or TF2. But free stuff is free stuff even if I can't run the damn thing XD

Also I suppose i'd just wait for Guild Wars 2 if I wanted an MMO... Doesn't it have a one time payment method to get the game from a shop and just y'know own the game rather than the standard monthly subscription fee?

I'm sure I remember something like that in a press release... It looks interesting regardless but no subs is always nice

EA has built up such a large amount of hate that people will be happy whenever they see something connected to EA fail. I myself am guilty of this as I always feel a small bit of happiness whenever I see EA fail. That and they were asking people to insult it when Bioware started telling everyone how it has completely changed the genre and is essentially Jesus reborn in the form of a video game.

I believe it was an attempt to lure people back to check out their first major content update.

I have to say, I found the Legacy system to be underwhelming to the point of high comedy. When it was still in development, we were pretty breathless in anticipation about the things we might unlock. New faces and hairstyles and character skins, perhaps? New companions? And it says something about new races! Perhaps Wookies! Oh boy!

So instead we go...dance animations. And emotes. And the races you unlock are the races you already played to level 50 with. Oh, and you get to pay 100's of credits for the privilege. Exciting!

Pretty much killed any chance of me returning. And now with GW2's beta weekend coming up, TOR can go take a bath. It was a fun game, but they're mishandling it.

Considerin the fact that 1.2 was basically how ToR (for the most part if you exclude the horribly botched launch of it) should have launched when the game was released. I just consider the free month as a way of apologizin for makin people pay 60 bucks plus another 45 bucks to be glorified beta testers for 3 months.

No offense to Swtor but I feel like they're doing this because of another big MMO coming out. Guild Wars 2. They're probably scared shitless that it will take a chunck of their players. Sure it's not p2p and so you COULD play both. But why pay for a lesser quality mmo when the other one has only a one time fee?

At this point it doesnt really matter anyway. Unless EA finish the cosmic mind control laser they are working on and convince every single person in the universe they desperately want to buy TOR, they will not turn a profit on that game anyway.

I mean, seriously. How does one spend 600 million on marketing and expect the game to make the money back?
The figure they spent on the game increases by 10 million every time someone brings it up. And they said that they'd turn a profit with 500,000 subs.

OT: Could just be preventative measures. MMOs have a pretty quick drop-rate, constant encouragement is a good way to keep momentum.
